Any ideas? It takes a few extra seconds of cranking to get it to start. Once it starts, it runs really rough until I "blip" the gas pedal.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I have an 89 Ranger and I am having the same problem, recently I had gas in vacuum lines and replaced the fpr hoping it wasn't my fuel pump. For about a week later I no longer had the problem and the truck would start almost immediately. Recently though, it will just crank for a few seconds and then roughly start, if I figure out my problem i'll pass along what i did to fix it.

What engine do you have? 2.9 V6 or 4 cyl?

2.9L V6 with 171,000 miles. I have replaced the o2 sensor and the fuel filter. Old symptoms of "chugging" and lack of power went away.

However, my current hard starting problem showed up in place of my previously cured problems listed above. There was over 1 month between the old problems and the new one, so I don't think they are related.

Lets start with the obvious:

Have you replaced the cap and rotor?
Wires?
PLugs?

Fuel filter?

It could be the in tank boost pump, you can check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

Clogged cat? :)

Do you have A CEL?

No light, but I have not checked codes. I hate to go out and spend money on Plugs, wires and cap/rotor if that isn't for sure the problem.

As I am currently looking for an Explorer, I am just trying to see if there is a cheap/quick fix for my problem.

you need to inspect the cap and rotor, the wires and the plugs. You dont have to buy anyhting yet.

Also the fuel filter should be changed OFTEN, and DO NOT USE A FRAM, get a motocraft......
