I have done quite the search and ot found anything.

I am in the middle of an oil flush/change. I ran some engine fluch through then drained the oil. But now I cant get the old filter off. I am not a small guy and as hard as I try, it won't budge. I don't have a wrench that fits the filter but did try a leather belt (has helped in the past) to no avail though. Anybody have any other tips/trick to getting off a stuck oil filter.

Thanks

Go get an oil filter wrench ( the correct size ) and your worries are over.

I prefer the type shown in the picture below.

Good luck .....

In the past, I have resorted to punching a screwdriver through an old filter to remove it if I didn't have access to a filter wrench. Punch the screwdriver through both sides and use it as a handle.

Note: You will get covered with oil doing this! :p

When I tried the screwdriver trick it loosened it up for me some, which helped. I never actually got around to putting it all the through, it loosened it up just by trying and I was able to get it off. What I've had luck with is those jar pads? The rubber grippers that you can use to get tight jar lids off. We have a bunch laying around the house and when I just can't get a grip on (such as when I have oil all over my hands) they've worked wonders.

I also once bought a filter wrench, but after I used it once, I couldn't get it off the filter and someone threw both away.

Got her,
Thanks for all the help and quick response! The screwdriver did it, but I will invest in a prpoer wrench for the future. Thanks again.

make sure the old gasket came off with it. sometimes they stick and when you start up, oil shoots all over the place. Happened to me once. Scared me Sh**less until I realized what caused it.

That was still on the old filter - This was not my first oil change (religous 5000 km) but usualy I can muscle them off... must be losing my touch

No need for the wrench since you already got the old one off. Just tighten the new one by hand..they don't need to be overtightened to the point where you need a wrentch to get it off again.
