92 won't start

i got a 92 xlt 4x4 and it won't start with the ignition switch i have to bridge the solenoid to start it. all fuses are good. i washed it yesterday and went to crank it and saw a little smoke comin from the top of the dash and everything works when i have the key on but nothing happens when i crank it. its doin that lately sometimes i crank it and nothing but i try it again and it starts but now i have to turn on the ignition pop the hood and take a screwdriver to the solenoid to start it.

Don't risk the switch catching fire. Either replace the switch or put a start switch somewhere on the dashboard. A remote start would also work.

thanks for the reply. it cranked up fine last night when i got off work and aint had no problems today. must be a loose wire or something
