i think 3k is a nice deal for that rig, it looks super clean, and just the lift with those tires and rims are worth about that much. i have a 91 eddie bauer and my gas guage wasnt working and it turned out that the sensor for the guage was in the fuel pump and the pump went bad a while after the guage stopped working iunno if it was just a coincidence or has something to do with the fuel pump goin bad other than that i wouldnt know what would be wrong.

Mine was bad also, the float in the tank had disintegrated, I changed my fuel pump at the same time since I was in there, and it had almost 200K on it.

...Very nice ride...

...Looking at that hood makes me want to see whats going on in there...

That's a damn nice Explorer.

Wish I could find a front bumper like that. That's the only thing I need to really finish my Exterior.

i think 3k was way too much..

you should sell it to me for 3k, that way i will take the hit :D

Welcome, that's a nice truck and likely a good deal. The tank sensor is bad for going out, just use the trip odometer for each tank full of gas.

How far are you from the Carolinas? I sold my Limited bumper to a member there, he may still have his old one. It just needed painting, mine didn't. Find the Limited seats also if you can, those are the best.

do the pump while you are in there. i just did it on my 91 eddie and it wasnt nearly as bad as my mustang was. the brass float had a pinhole in it and it wouldnt float anymore.

They are under $50 used for the whole assembly at most salvage yards. New pumps alone should be less than $75, they don't go bad often. It's the same pump as most Fords, I have a couple of spares.

oh man used parts doesnt seem like a good idea for something like that. do you really want to have to pull the gas tank again in six months when the used pump goes bad?

I say do what you can afford. If you can afford the new pump, get the new pump, most likely you'll have a warranty if something goes awry. If you can only afford a used pump, get one from the lowest mileage Explorer you can find.

CDW is right though, these don't go bad that often, and in your case, it sounds like just the float went bad, or is stuck. Maybe pull it, and see what's going on with it, maybe the float broke and all it needs is to be mended.

I agree, leave the pump alone if it's working, or unless you want to put more into it. The sensors are floats that usually fail by having a leak. I think that you can still buy those separately.

about pump quality ....like josh said buy what you can with what you got but if you buy a new pump try to by a good one .the first one i installed was a no name brand and it failed on me 3 days after installing it ( $99 and a 6 month warr. ) the next one i bought at advance auto was a bosch it cost $30 some odd more but comes witha lifetime warr. !! have not had any issues yet .

btw : dropping the tank may sound like bit-h but it's really not ...if i have all my tools in front of me and the truck lifted i can do it in about 45 minutes same to re-install ...2 hours tops from start to finish( with all the gas out of it of course) .one of the best things dropping it will let you clean it out really well .not just sticking your hand in there to clean what you can see . when i did mine i washed it out inside and out and then got some lint free towles and dried it then i got my air compressor and blew it out to make sure it was all good.

mine did not have a lot per-say debrie in it but around the pick up tube / screen area was ring of really fine sandy type stuff that was glued to the tank ...had to scape all that crap out thus the need to flush the tank .burns came up with a good idea don't get me wrong (( not trying to dis you burns )) ( almost wished i did that first off ) but dropping lets you do many things ,being able to clean it really good ,lets you inspect all of the tank like where the skid plate is ( mine had rocks between the tank and skid plate ...nothing like haveing a sharp knife on a PLASTIC FUEL CELL ) ,and your not cutting a possible rust latent hole in your unibody ( and not to mention that the possiblity of cutting your tank while trying to make the access hole .

hope this helps . . .
