95-01 Projector headlights, Part 2

correction only 98+ mounty
I have a 97 mounty front clip, I wish it was 98, well until they came out with the new black halo projectors I installed, now I LOVE IT

No adjusters needed for these new lights, thank goodness! I hated the exploder Gen II light setup....what a PITA

How do they adjust then? I assume both models would do it similarly.

I think it's mainly used for the GM trucks that have the quad headlights. My dad has one installed on his Silverado.

On those, and our Explorers, when the high beams are activated the low beams are turned off. That's good when you have a single bulb pulling double duty(9007). When you split the beams up you want the low to stay on. This is especially true with HIDs since they have a warming up period. So this just keeps the low beams on when the highs are activated.

I by-passed this by pulling the kick on for my ballasts on the headlight on/off lead before it is split off into high and low.

It references GM since they have the 4 light systems. Ford usually only has two lights.
Go to; http://www.kchilites.com/ Click Support, then Wiring Diagrams, then KC 6314.
I shows how to do it. The high beam power is used to trigger the relay and turn on the low beams. Its a necessity with the HID 4 lamp system.

The other KC kit is used for GM veh.s with DRL. You dont want that one.

thanks!

I tried to order a set, but KC's credit card system is maddening. Keeps telling me my billing address is wrong when it's not. :frustrate

id be all over the lights but almost 300 for headlights is to much for me

Well, the headlights are $250 including ship. $300 if you want a HID kit in addition.

The Group Buy is closed anyhow. We're just in the final stages of getting all the money together and they start shipping.

EDIT: Henry is extending the GB for a couple of weeks if anyone is interested. I think he's got details in there on page 7 or 8 in the original GB thread.

Bill, I managed to order the Quad Light wiring thing finally. Their website kept giving me grief so I managed to track down someone there who made it happen and even dropped a few bucks off the price for my hassles. Nice folks there.

Thanks for sending me to them. My Projectors will be here in a few days. I'm going to take my time hooking them up. I've got some better H1 bulbs coming from the UK (Osram) and also have a call in to my HID guy for a H1 4300 bulb for the low beam. One GB participant already has his headlights so there should be more photos around these parts soon. ;)

Cheers,

Brad

All Right...Keep us informed of how you are doing. Looks like it will be a really good mod/improvement.
Thanks, Bill

With 11 kits out there, I'll probably be one of the last to get mine installed. The first one to get his had some "fit" issues which I think 410Fortune came across when he got his. Nothing a little cutting can't fix! :D

If you dont have to mod a mod than it isnt a mod. Its just an R & R and anyone can do that.:D

got my projectors in today and man they are AWESOME!!!
here is a picture of it in action
The on on the "bottom" is the clears (diamonds 6000k hid) and the other one is the projector (obviously 4300k hid)

Group Buy pricing is coming to an end on the 12th. I got mine today. Should be installed by the weekend hopefully.

Some eye candy (X Post from the GB thread).

Looks awesome! Looking forward to some good beam shots.

Today was the day! I tore into everything on the truck today which included installing the new housings. I first looked at these last evening and was impressed by the overall package. The lights are solid, well sealed, and the wiring was rather straight forward. As others have said, it would be nice to have a connector to plug in the LEDs and corner lamp into the the running light socket. Some snipping and clipping took care of that though.

Removal of the diamond lights was rather straight forward. The cheap plastic clips all broke making removal simple. Removing all the wiring I pressed in the drivers housing to find that these are far from a bolt in mod. The rear of the projector portion hit on the header panel. Removal of the grille was then necessary to get a dremel in to cut the area out. A few more areas had to be addressed by the dremel. I'll highlight those once I get a chance to edit the picture.

From there on everything was smooth sailing besides some trimming to get the turn bulbs into place. Again, as other have stated the projector alignment is decent. High beams are way off but I ran out of steam before I could finish up.

I did take a quick spin. It's very different to drive with such a sharp cut off. I like how the lights is more evenly dispersed and the high beams are amazing. I can't wait to get them adjusted and some HIDs into them. Now onto the pictures!

I'm impressed with the looks of the lights and the pics of the beams.
I think you got a winner.

They are quite impressive for the price. Note that in my pictures the car is sitting level and the driveway is sloped down the garage. The lights are not aimed that high.

I'm anxious to see some good pictures with HIDs installed. They should be equally impressive!

Bill, should the low portion of the right light match the high portion of the left light? or should both high portions be level?

Thats the way I have the projectors aimed on the Cad. I dont know if its the right way but I like it & I dont get flashed. Just seems like a good way to aim them.

The more light I can get on the road, the better.
