Hello, Im kinda new to the whole ford thing and as well as this site. ive had my explorer for 2 months now and the thing is mint inside and out, it has got 300k on it and drove like a top till today.
Half way to work i felt a nuge (like a tranny slip) and the O/D light started to flash, i just thought that something was being screwy cause it was killer cold outside but then on the way home it was still on and was shifting funny at times then i found this site and read up on the O/d light and went with what ppl were saying and disconected the battery to reset the computer. then i started it and the light was off but when i went to drive it I had NO GEARS not forward, 2, 1, or reverse???? I know mechanically it has to be sound, so it has to be electric either (solenoid, switch, module, sensor). something like that cause disconnecting a battery doesnt make ur gears just dissappear like in minutes, sorry its long but i need some pointers im trying to keep it cheep.

thanks

Welcome to this forum! First of all, never disconnect the battery when you have a malfunction. It will erase the trouble code from the memory. The funny shifting was the PCM causing the transmission to perform in limp (FMEM) mode. It caused the EPC solenoid to increase the pressure to shift. By clearing this code from the system, the vehicle went out of limp mode, and there was insufficient pressure to engage the gears. Start the vehicle, and connect a 0-300 PSI test gauge to the line pressure port, and the EPC test port. I suspect that there is a valve body malfunction, bad valve body gaskets, loose valve body bolts, or possibly a defective EPC solenoid due to high mileage. When was the last time you replaced the fluid, and the filter?

We checked codes today, KOEO code 636, TFT snsr or ckt. What sensor is this, is it transmission related? Could this be the cause of the trouble, or is it likely mechanical? It seems to be electronic becasue it was working good (without OD) and then as soon as i unhooked the batery the tranny was gone?

Thanks

Well figured it out thanks for the help but like i had said earlier we pulled a code 636 up and looked into it on a buddies shop computer program and it told us to take out the computer and hit it a few times with our hands and plug it back in. so we did that and bang it worked again but i now know that i need a new computer which i will be looking into tomorrow. all that and the problem is pretty much a loose of faulty conection within the computer..
