Has anyone here ever replaced the CMP (camshaft sensor) & Synchronizer ?

I got the parts but it says I need an alignment tool, I called Ford and they don't sell it. They told me to call Snap-On or other large tool distributor.
So far I've had no luck ....

Is there another way of doing this ?

The inside of the old synchronizer and CMP is distroyed
the metal ear on the synchronizer was even torn off.
So I have no reference points even from the old one.

Any help would really be appreciated :)

This is what happens when the chirping noise stops but the CEL stays on :(

SPX/OTC makes it. You need to use OTC Tool number 303-638. This is the Synchonizer alignment tool for 1996 4.0L OHV. There is another tool (303-529) which is for 1997 and up 4.0L OHV.

Ford isn't telling you the whole story. They don't sell the tool but I guarantee you that some dealers have it in the shop.

Try and find a dealer in your area at their webpage. They used to have a page which had pictures of all their special service tools but they killed it.

excellent, thanks procyon :)

I'm sure the dealer would much rather have me pay the big $$$
and have the job done by them, instead of me buying the alignment tool
and doing the job myself.

this has to be the suckiest repair I've done so far on my X

thanks again :D

I seen some sycronizer tools on e-bay for the 4.0L. That was last week though and I think the auctions have ended. I think they sold for around $50. Dead Link Removed

procyon

I can't find the tool you mentioned on OTC/SPX
Do you have a direct link?

Thanks,
Al

I too need this tool...... but for a 97 5.0L V8

Thanks,
Al
