98 Explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC
Hi,
So after diagnosing that my transfer case was indeed at fault i want to replace it. budget being an issue for me at the moment, im opting for a used one. since im buying it private party i want to make sure what i get matches up, but im running past my normal range of knowledge. My TC tag says:
A2872 4405-10
115150 F87A CA
My explorer is a 98 4.0 SOHC 4wd (not AWD) XLT, Auto Trans if it makes a difference.
the sellers explorer is a 97 4.0 SOHC 4wd, (also no AWD)
he said it was also a 4405 when i asked, but didnt provide the rest of the tag info, however i also havent asked yet. now i dont know enough about what the numbers other thatn 4405 mean, so i dont know if that theyre both 4405 is all that matters. or if i need to ask for the rest of the tag info in order to determine if they will match up. i'd hate to spend the money and get the wrong part. the photos seem to look the same, but, mine isnt pulled from my car yet, so i cant be 100%. Any help would be much appreciated

Make sure u check witch speed sensor u have and that it matches the one u are buying if it dont ur speedometer will not work

^^^what he said, kinda. 98's the vss picks up its signal form the abs sensor in the rear diff. in 97 it gets it from the transfer case. if you are swapping it into you 98, you should be ok.

Only reason i know is because i have a 97 explorer and put a 98 transfer into it couldnt afford new one but it works good just dont have speedometer
