When replacing the ball joints on a 98 ford explorer xlt v8 5.0 do i need to replace the tie rods to? And what is the difference between 1 piece control arm and 2 piece control arm? Any help

You will have to take the outer tie rod loose to do the lower ball joints so they could be replaced then if they have play in them. One piece control arm can replace the two piece on the passenger side. I guess the two piece allows for more adjustment capability. I have used the one piece on 3 vehicles without issues. There are some good write ups in the sticky how to section if you haven't found them already. I have always needed a big hammer to break loose the lower ball joint from the hub assembly.
