99 5.0 Upgrades

its a small electronic thing that measures HP, accel, 1/4 mile times.. all kinds of neat stuff.. they're kind of pricey tho..

oh you think a saturns bad? you dont even know what my "killed-by" list looks like heh, you'd see things like "busted ass geo" and crown vics, suburbans.. 95-96 v6 Xs, an old buick of some kind.. an old lady in a cadillac... I've lost track of all of them.

OUCH DUDE!! GEO? We need to get to the bottom of this pretty quick then!!! I almost got beat by a 2002 Cav. a couple weekends ago. I let him leave pretty early though. Anyway, let me talk to SlowPony tonight, we'll get this taken care of. Meanwhile, I'm going to look-up this G-Tech jazz.
 






Darkfox - its almost like your trans is in 2nd gear or stuck in 2nd gear. The way your truck shifted and reved and sounded was just like if I were to start out in 2nd gear on my Mounty. The 5.0 revs fast as hell in 1st gear on Explorer/Mounty's, well, at least on a truck running right;) It sounded like it took forever for your engine/rpms to get moving or sound like it was finnaly reving. Plus if I start out in 2nd gear I get about the same times your getting, but still a little faster:p

Knoxfan- the g-tec is sorta like a little GPS type of thing, but the newer ones measure basically every aspect of a vehicle from rwhp to mph in the quarter ect. The new ones are extremely accurate as when my neighbor and I use his, it gives us basically the same exact times we get at the track for my Mounty, and his 02' 4.6 Explorer and modded Audi S4.
 






would it be harder to stop if it were doing that? being stuck in 2nd.. this morning when I was leaving campus I ran a stop sign on accident.. had the brake to the floor.. it idled right through it.. thankfully it didn't happen again.. and the campus police didn't see it.
 






what, you mean stop it from 2nd gear??

My Mounty accelerates a little faster than yours does if I start off in 2nd gear, but it sounds and revs just like your did. Thats kinda weird, it would really suck if you've been driving around this whole time stuck in 2nd gear, but I doubt that is whats going on.
 






I dunno.. I mean when my trucks cold and is idling high.. it doesn't like to stop.. at all.. on a day like today it idles at 1100 rpm or so cold.. once it warms up it idles at 1000.. its very hard to stop it from moving when its idling this high.

I doubt thats the issue too..but I'm willing to persue any possible leads, so long as its not leads like "its a lemon" or "theres a chinchilla stuck in your #4 cylinder"
 






Saleen has an awesome point. That is exactly what it sounds like. I just went back and watched the vid. It looks like you stopped for a very breif second before you hammered it. Did I see that right? You may not have gave it enough time to downshift before you took off.

the way it behaved in the video is the way it has behaved for a very long time.. its nothing out of the ordinary. no matter how long it sits still it acts the same.
 






Maybe I can record mine? How did you do it?(cross it over into a mpg) I don't know how to do it:(
 






I have a voodoo3 3500 videocard on my 2nd computer, its outdated, but it has video input. From that I can use the "VCR" utility to record off an analog signal.

once there I can convert it to an mpg with videowaveIII (came with the card)

I'd love to see it.

on another note..

I just got OWNED by a cavalier.. totally stock..

I was cruising at like 55, I glance in my rearview and see a pair of headlights gaining really fast in my lane.. I suspect it to be a ricer (obviously not a cop) so I gun it.. or so I thoguth.. the truck continued going 55.. the cavalier flies up on me.. gets beside me passes me gets in my lane and pulls a car length away.. THEN my transmission downshifts and goves to 65 before I let off the gas. this guy was moving maybe 15mph faster than me... and people wonder why I *****.. try wreslting a 5000 pound fat man down the road every day.
 






sounds like your trans is seriously delaying before a shift. Can't figure it out though scince nobdy else has this problem.

Today leaving school, from a light I hung with my friends auto IS300 he could only put maybe a car length or so on me, but off the line I completey owned him to about 45-50mph when he started to pull away, damn
sh!tty stock cam that Ford put in:mad: . IS's aren't fast anyway so, wasn't that big of a deal, even a manual is pretty slow compared to other cars in it's class.
So if you got owned by a cavalier thats pretty bad considering the ones with th 150hp engine are still slow as balls.
 






I normally dont like imports.. but the lexus I series is pretty sexy.. RWD, v6, 200hp? something like that.. I actually wouldn't mind having one of those.

GOD I NEED THAT JOB, perhaps I need to start a post about that.. not like anyone would reply, most of the people on the forum hate me now :(
 






Darkfox, you really have some tranny problems! I'm going to talk to my dude on Friday. I'll report as soon as I have the info. Today I smoked my neighbors Galant like a pack of Kools. Kinda fun:D I'm going to look into that card too.

Saleen, you seem to be the whiz at this stuff. I'm going to get my X looked at on Friday, what is this head porting bizz that you were talking about?(I think it was you) About the Chevy valves.....??? I'm going to do it I think. That is if I can get all the info. I have all my finances in order for quite some time. So what the hell, might as well put some boys to shame in the X! What do ya guys think?
 






IS300 = 215hp and rwd, so pretty slow for it's class but handles damn well. Autos run about 7.5-7.8 seconds to 60 and manuals run about 7.1-7.4 to 60 which puts it around the slowest in it's class....
But the IS430 will take care of that next year.

There another thing that something is wrong, you getting passed by a cavalier while I can out run an IS300 till about 45mph, then the crappy stock cam comes into play.:mad:
 






Knoxfan - I think it was james t that was talking about port and polishing and the chevy valves, not sure but it's somewhere in this thread.

Port and Polishing is basically what the name is, they expand the inside a little of whatever your porting and get rid of all the slight ripples and such to give it a smooth, polished finished. Kind of expensive and only really shows gains when you have a lot of mods done. Thats why guys with Mustangs usually wait to Port and Polish unless they know they are going to be adding on a lot of mods.

Head porting they'll basically enlarge your heads innards. Again kinda expensive.
 






A good friend of mine owns a race shop about 15 miles from where I live. I can get labor done for pretty cheep. Do you thinks it'a a very good idea. I guess really the only mods I have coming are a programmer and MAC intake. I just want the most bang for my buck I guess.

heh, thanks, I know a lot about the 5.0 but I would think guys like james t or 88vert would know more. Almost all of my friends have stangs and Cobras with the 4.6 engine - so I'm better knowledged on that engine. My grandfather had Flows put on their Town-Car but ended up getting rid of them for Magnaflows becasue Flows resonate a lot on the 4.6 and he wanted to at least keep some level of sanity. Sounds like a Cobra comming into our driveway - but it's just the Town-Car.

Thats why I'm looking forward to whenever our dealer gets in an 02' 4.6 Mounty; KenneBell Twin-Screw here I come:D

I guess I'm just cheap.. but every mod I find for the X is hella expensive.. I can't find anything that really helps for under $1k.. and $1k is a lot of money to me right now.

perhaps if/when I get a job I'll slap on a supercharger and call it a day.
