under my hood? I can't say.. but theres 170 at the wheels

I live in summerville, SC, near Charleston. truck/mods in sig. I will go and run a 0-60 here in a while and repost my times. I'm going to use a watch though so????

your truck sounds a lot like mine taking off, I wouldn't desribe my 5.0 as getting quickly through first but hey, I do own a trans am and I guess that kinda biases my opinion.

If you like tomorrow I could make a video and email/ transfer it to you at some point, I can make mpegs up to fifteen seconds too.... although I'm trying to find some free hosting that's good (anyone???)

cool, sound good.. love ta see it. I have an ftp if you'd like to UL directly to it, its cable so it'd be a bit slow.. but it'd work. just email me or PM me when you're ready to send and I'll give you the info.. I hace DHCP so the IP changes.

I go to charleston every year in june on vacation.. Imay have seen you there.

I dont drive my truck in the city tho.. compared to here charleston is NYC.. way too much traffic.. I'd screw up and get in a wreck or something.

I've been keeping up on this post, and I decided to do DF1 a favor, time my truck.

2001 XLT, V8, AWD, 15" Wheels, Stock Tires.

Cracked drivers side header.

Westin Safari Bar and extra lights, Bugshield, KKM Intake, 2.5" Catback w/ Ravin 33 muffler, Gabriel VST shocks. Everything else stock.

I'm 6'2" and weigh about 240. I had probably another 100 pounds of garbage in the back.

About 1/2 tank of gas.

(My stopwatch is seconds only, no fractions)

0-60, a slight incline, 45 degrees Celsius:

Run 1 : 10s
Run 2 : 11s
Run 3 : 10s

Average = 10.3s

Hope this helps!

That's awesome! That helps me too. Because I'm only getting in the mid 9's. i don't understand how guys are getting 8's? Maybe the G-tec add's another three inches too your manhood too.

god.. you beat me with a cracked manifold.. well you are AWD.. that gives you much better traction there.. and probablly better accel.. I can't help but think however the AWD model is heavier and would thus be a bit slower given the same conditions and ruling out traction.

Thanks for the times, really appreciate it, the more I have to compare to, the better

lol, I dont know about the G-tec having THAT function lol but I know it does a lot.

I have no idea how they're getting the 8s either man.. seems incomprehensible for a stock X to me.

I have no idea either DF1. i think I have a u-joint going out. No big deal. If the G-tec does do that, I'm getting 2.

what makes you think that? deagledave suggested that to me.. and I tried to get up under there and try to turn the driveshaft wiht my hands.. but I'm too fat to get under the running boards w/o jacking the truck up.. and I dont feel like doing that right now.

2? lol, you might need a larger pair of jeans if you do that.

Look in every mag test and you'll see the 5.0 Explorer in the 8.3 second range with the sohc being .1 or .2 slower. So theres something wrong if you guys are as slow as an ohv V6 Explorer. My 94' ohv gets to 60 in about 9.9 seconds now, stock it was around 10.5, so that should tell ya something;)

The ohv Explorers run about 10-10.5 on average to 60, so how could an 5.0 V8 with a crapload of more power and torque and standard 3.73 gears run the same time or slower?

Trust me, the gtecs are accurate, it gives us the same times that we get at the track, thats accurate enough for me:D . Also beating two Durango R/T'S at the track supports that, with one of them being beat on two runs.

Rivtek - don't know why your's is slow also, but how do you like the Ravin exhaust? Always wondered how they would sound on a 5.0 or 4.6:)

actually, unless you have a major power adder or built motor, the 2wd will be quicker off the line. lets face it, its not like the 2wd with a catback and intake is gonna sit there and spin.lol the added weight of the AWD will make it slower off the line, as the 2wd will be able to "hook" without spining much.

Yeh, the only time an AWD would be quicker is if you had some serious mods (nos plus superchrager ect), the AWD would would give you better traction at a track - depending on driver, but in stock form it's slower - part of the power goes to drive the front wheels instead of fully to the rear and their a little heavier.

Fast acceleration times have to have some or a little wheelspin (which the 2wd can invoke), look at stangs or other cars at the track - if they don't have a little wheelspin off the line they bog out.

Darkfox - I sent you an email last night on the cam issue, did you get it?

Ask James t above as I think he said he had an e-303 cam but it wasn't installed yet - right james?

expo5.0 has good things to say about that cam also.

no, the cam i have makes the E-303 look like a toothpick. lol i have a Comp Cams blower cam that is, um.... well its just friggin big. ill put it this way, im gonna have to fly-cut the pistons to run it.

expo5.0 has the E303, and it makes a huge difference over the stocker. its also got a nice idle and makes very good midrange power, and is perfect in a mild modded X.

   , damn - you know you got a big ass cam if you have to fly-cut the pistons. I don't think anyone on here has done that.
What are the specs on the Comp Cam (blower one right?)

I'm not a powerdyne fan, but with that charger your getting and a cam that big your gonna seriously fly:D And have one mean ass lumpy sound to the exhaust/engine.

well expo hasn't replied yet, yes I got the email thanks saleen.

I dont want anything crazy.. just wanna get the truck up to speed.. if I can do a cam swap for a reasonable price.. (I was estimated $1000 for a cam swap including the cam)

as this is and will be my daily driver for hopefully 5 more years.. 4R70W allowing.. I want a cam tahts gonna make this thing get up and go instead of sit back and relax... BUT. I dont want anything thats going to compromise my mileage or reliability in any way.

wouldn't youneed a chip with a cam? it seems the ODBII system HATES mods and counter-compensates for anytthing you do to keep the truck at a nice moderate "really slow"

darkfox- yes a chip/programmer will help with the E303, but is not needed. the E303 is a good mild daily driver cam, and will work great in an X, and be very drivable. you should see no loss in off-idle torque, and see big increases in mid-range and upper rpm power and torque.

Hey all. I'm just catching up here. So I may be a little slow. Saleen, I was just giving you **** about the g-tec. I'm sure it works awesome. I'm actually gonna buy myself one for x-mas.
DarkFox: I think I have a u-joint going out because I'm starting to hear some stuff, and I don't think it's the tranny. After I take off, I get up to about 35 or so and let it shift into the right gear(3rd?) Then I let of the gas for a second. I tap on the gas and it's almost like a slip before it kicks in. BUT!!!, after i cleaned out the dust cap from my throttle cable(throttle slack check and it had paper in it too), I put 92 octain gas in my X. It's almost like a completely different vehicle. I can get into the mid 9's doing a 0-60 now.

I had that assembly cleaned on mine not too long ago.. SUPRISE no change :) he said it wasn't too gummed up anyway.I think he just wanted to say he did something to try and fix it hehe.

wel I have a slight wirring/vibration that happens at 3k rpm and up.. when it does this the whole truck tenses up and then ends in a hard slamming shift ( like its constipated) deagledave suggested this could be a U-joint.. as siad I haven't checked it yet, but somehow I dont tihnk something like that would be anything BUT the transmission. my dads 86 chevy truck does it too.. only harder and worse.. so whatever it is I'd think it'd be a common well known issue. happens more whne its cold.. the truck and the weather.. but still happens to degrees reguardless of temp.

does that sound like what yours is doing? I'm not quite sure what you were saying when you explained yours.

9s, nice, ya general clean up in usually neglectd areas can sometimes make a diff. I try to clean everything I can that I know how to do it.. but i'm so worried I'm going to mess something up, I dont like to open the hood of my truck.. not so much cos I dont know anything about engines I know how they work, as far as mechanically.. but this truck hasta be there fo rme.. and if I break somethin and its gotta be out of commission for a while.. I'll be banging my head up against a wall heh

ha, no prob, just make sure to get the newer digital one, I'm not sure if they still sell the older unit but it didn't have as many features on it.

When you said you put 92 octane in, you'd actually be running a little slower if anything b/c you don't have a chip to to program the 5.0 to run on it. But if it is running better know, are you sure you didn't have any knock or anything before?? The higher octane would have gotten rid of the knock and improved performace a little over the way the engine would be if it were knocking. Did this happen?

Still doesn't really explain why you guys are running so slow, thats really hard to figure out. And I know I didn't get a strong 5.0 b/c ever 5.0 Explorer/Mounty I've been in is as fast as ours.

My friend just ran a 15.83 at the track with just an intake and flowmaster exhaust. I ran a 16.2 stock, so his responded well to the mods, don't know why some of you are still in the 10's with an exhaust and intake mods.
