What exactly did the towing package consist of for 1999?

It was rear end gears, most likely 3.73's or 4.10's (v6 only), a factory trans cooler, and a 4 wire connector on the bumper.

EDIT: I said "rear end gears", but I meant to say just "gears". Obviously, the front, if 4x4 will be the same.

Thanks y'all!

bryan, I have a '99 xlt 4door with a flex-fuel/auto tranny. it did not come with a towing package, but I've had no problems towing.

I always tow with OD off and stop around 100 miles to check what I'm towing. when I stop I always pull the tranny dipstick out and check the fluid. 144k miles now and the fluid has never foamed or been hot enough to cause any problems yet.

recently towed a '92 explorer from SC to MS without a whimper. the ranger just keeps on going. I don't recommend it, but I have towed my '88 F-150 4-WD 60 miles one way on several occasions. (forgot to mention I'm crazy, too)

slow and easy starts, OD off, and frequent stops to check things will prevent some unnecessary breakage. ............jf:thumbsup:
