Im looking to buy a 1997 explorer with the v6 in it, it has around 105,000 miles. I was wondering do the explorers have and problems i should know about before i buy it? Are they good vehicles?

Two different V6s were available that year, the 4.0 OHV (traditonal, cam in block style) and the 4.0 SOHC (overhead cam). You can easily tell by looking at the top of the engine. The OHV will say "EFI" on top, and the SOHC will say "SOHC." The SOHC is a higher HP engine.

If it is the SOHC, you will want to do a little searching here for 00M12 (someone correct me there if that is wrong), and make sure that it has been done to the engine.

'97s were also infamous for "blend door" problems. You can search that term also, but the main thing to look for is that the AC works in all positions (normal, max, defrost).

'97 was also known for the radio display going out, but if it is working, I wouldn't worry about it.

Are they good vehicles? Sure! Do they have small little problems just like every other make/model of vehicle? They sure do!

i really appreciate the help, hopefully the deal goes through with this explorer, and one more question for someone who can answer, did they make lift kits for 1997's?

Yes and no. They make lifts for the 97 Explorer, but you need to tell us if it is a AWD or 2wd. Also does it have the air ride system on it?

It's a V6, so it is 4WD or 2WD. Either way, lifts are available, but suspension lifts are incredibly expensive for the 4WD ones. 2WDs are relatively cheap for suspension lifts. And bodylifts are available (Ranger kits) for either for very cheap.
