ABS light on

She sees the road block, screams and slams on the brakes. Everybody starts screaming as the car decelerates.

Did the car have ABS?

Yes - They stop at the edge of the bridge, wipe off the seats, and drive home.

No - A state trooper wakes you up.

Is it safe to drive without ABS? You decide.[/QUOTE]

Excellent point! As a police officer, I've seen many newer drivers make careless mistakes and ABS is even more important when they're driving.

In fact, with my '94 Explorer (127k miles) the ABS light goes off and/on (it can be off for days/hours and then go back on for hours/days, etc. ) My son just got his permit and we have him driving the wife's Maxima for this reason.

I didn't know about AutoZone - and will have them check it tomorrow if they have the ABS code reader. Thanks for the good info.!

Turns out, the ECM for the ABS system was not connected properly.....now that its hooked up right, no more abs light.

I lied. The light was off for only a few seconds before it came back on grrr. Back to the drawing board.

Ok I re-read all of this.... I only see where you've talked about the abs computer and testing the relays.

I would look at the abs sensors...

But then again we haven't totally ruled out the abs computer not being completely at fault.

Yeah, I can't get the ABS module jumper test to work right....I haven no idea what's going on.

Yeah, I have issues sometimes when I try to get up to speed too fast, it likes to make 'clunking' noises every now and then. I get about 275 miles to every tank, don't know if that's normal or not.

Ok, checked them out....who knows for sure if that's the problem. Guess I'm gonna have to save up some money to have it diagnosed before I go spending money on parts.

The reason Ford put RABS on the early exploders and rangers and FSB's is because they have a tendacy to swap ends when you lay on the brakes. I had a 90 ranger 2wd with RABS the worked flawlessly and it truly helped. Now on my 91 exp sport Ive gotten it to lock up but Ive never felt the RABS work. Seems like a fickle design but when it works it works well. I have a class A now, so getting to that point dosen't seem to happen anymore.
