Has anybody else tried using acetone in your gas tank? I put in 4 ounces at a fill up. I have noticed about 4 more miles to the gallon. Don't believe me, google it. It's an old trick thats been around a while. Just don't get it on the paint. I reuse a gas treatment bottle and a funnel. Just thought i would pass it on.

Its been discussed and a few on the forum have tried it. Thanks for your input though! :D

Jeff, your linky no worky.

No, no one on here has tried it;)

The link "was" a search on "acetone" on this site. It comes back with over 9 pages of hits....Acetone as a fuel addative has been discussed to death, killed, resurrected and killed several times over on these boards...

Oh no, not another Acetone thread. Combine it with a Tornado for a boost of around 20 mpg. Get one of those eBay resistors and add another 10 for sure.

Right.....

Yes i have repeated the test several times. I went from 13.4 mpg to 17 mpg. If i don't use it i drop back down. And to the rest of you, guess what! the world is not flat either. I have also been experimenting with a hydrogen cell as well. Let me guess, to some of you that is probably witchcraft. Anyone that is interested in a hydrogen let me know i will share my research with you and what i have done. I ran my lawnmower on it it it did fine. PM me on it to keep the smart ***** from learning something. I am starting a engine rebuild to handle hydrogen without the need for fossil fuel. Got the motor now to get started.

We're interested in innovations -- keep us posted :D

By hydrogen fuel cell - are you speaking of a proton exchange membrane or water ionization?

Sounds neat to me.

I've tried Helium in the tires!

I make the car lighter....hence better fuel mileage!

Ah but a "lighter" vehicle means you wont have as much momentum on downhills to help you with the coming uphills ;) Hehe - just kidding around

bwingler ... i am curious..

Didnt they "Bust" acetone on mythbusters?

Didnt they "Bust" acetone on mythbusters?

Yeah, but they did a piss poor job scientifically with the test, so I wouldn't put much faith in their results. Remember, it's a TV show, not a science show. They make a lot of mistakes when they try to be scientific.......

I am working on a demand system. It is a dc pulse so you don't need the super high current of an ac system to produce the hydrogen. Even have the throttle body drawn out. If anyone is wondering i am a cad designer by trade. Designed and built things from robotic arms to outdoor play systems. We have a cnc machine at work plus i have almost completed my bench top cnc at the house. I am setting up my website so i will post my design work there on hydrogen and my cnc machine About $400.00 to build. The system i currently have is chemical reactor that once you start it it continues to produce hydrogen until the fuel is exhausted. The fuel is scrap aluminum cans. Feeds into the intake and can be built for less then $100.00 bucks. It works fine on my 14 hp craftsman riding lawn mower. And no i don't sell on ebay. With in the next month or so i will be installing it on my exploder. Nothing like having a minature hydrogen reactor under the hood.lol If this carries enough interest I will create a blog on my server. Anyone that is interested in helping with developement is more then welcome. There has got to be a better means of fuel instead of this $2.50 a gallon stuff. By the way, my current system makes your vehicle a hybrid.

I'd like to think I have an open mind on this subject...and I'm willing to try it out. However, since I know nothing of chemistry, or combustion, or whatever else is required to fully study this, I question a couple of things. Could there be a hidden reason for the 2 to 3 mpg boost? Maybe the reason doesn't matter, only the end result. Anyway, does acetone actually add energy to the fuel, or does it act as an additive and make the fuel components operate cleaner and smoother? One post I saw on a link shown above claimed Seafoam had acetone in it. I Googled the ingredients (ingredients are only given in CAS numbers) and it appears that acetone is NOT in it. (it has aliphatic naphtha, hydrotreated heavy naphthenic, and isopropanol). However, acetone may still be an effective "additive"...it's just a much cheaper additive than something you buy at the autoparts store.

If acetone adds energy to the fuel, then that's really cool. If it's just an effective additive/cleaner, that's a good thing too, since it's cheap. Two to three mpg is worth the effort. However, I would think the fuel and the engine can only get so clean and the benefit would diminish over time.

I've always believed that hydrogen will be the way to go eventually. BMW has a great concept car right now running dual fuel with a gasoline internal combustion engine and hydrogen (not the GM and Japanese hydrogen electric hybrid).

BUT... here's an interesting article on Netscape today.

http://www.netscape.com/viewstory/2007/03/07/state-makes-big-fuss-over-local-couples-vegetable-oil-car-fuel/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.herald-review.com%2Farticles%2F2007%2F03%2F01%2Fnews%2Flocal_news%2F1021491.txt&frame=true

Some poor old man (79) in Illinois is running his VW on bio-deisel and had your federal agents knocking on his door for road tax evasion and also for not having the proper permits for being a fuel exporter/importer. So much for innovation starting at the grass roots level. Some poor guy is doing the best he can to get off of foreign oil dependency and the government tried to crucify him. I'm sure that this same insanity could be applied to hydrogen and ethanol / grain fuels.

Sad really..................
