Has anyone seen on the internet anything about using pure acetylene as a fuel additive? I have read good and bad things about it, but, as with anything on the internet, I wonder if it is a scam or just plain stupid. Has anyone tried this and what was the effect? Better mileage and power or damaged fuel systems?

Tried it!

Well, no one bit on the thread, so I decided to try it. I added 4 oz of pure acetylene when I filled up this afternoon. I guessed that there was about 4 -5 gallons in the tank and added about 14 gallons of fresh 87.

I ran it for about 25 miles so far and no adverse affects have popped up. I'll try to keep an update as to the mileage. It has been in the "ugh" to "oh crap" category this winter.

Yes, or Xylene?

sorry, yes Acetone!! duh, I'm a duffus! We use use Acetylene at work so that was stuck in my head! What is xylene?

It's just another old common fuel additive. There isn't much real evidence that any simple liquid chemical helps mileage. I think that the weird electrical water conversion devices have more potential for helping, but there is a whole lot ot read and research about that. Good luck,
