I haven't heard lately, but I think it died out after a while.

While I have never tried acetone for MPG reasons, I know some drag racers around here that put acetone in the tank to ward off detonation. Best octane we can get around Tulsa, OK now is 91. Might have to try it in the Mustang if it starts pinging!

Use Toulene, not Acetone to boost octane, works like a charm

I'm still using Acetone as a mileage booster. I have about 1 quart left in my first gallon.

I have determined, for me, this is a worth while additive and will continue its use indefinately. ;) I'm just not posting results in my thread at this time.

I am still recording the numbers and continue to build my personal database. :thumbsup:

I ran on one tank with it and didn't notice a thing.

With your big foot, you should stick to toluene,,,,,,,,,,,,,about 5 gal/tank ;)

It evidently takes a few tankfuls. I don't know why, but that has been stated before. Regards,

Hey I just filled 15 gallons of 87 octane starting with a 1 gallon gas can
with 3 oz of 100% acetone dilluted in it (got it at Walgreens and it has fragrance and a chemical called denatonium benzoate in it, I hope this doesn't matter too much but the can stuff at
Wal Mart and Home Depot doesn't say it's 100% so I was a little confused but decided to go with it anyway since all I saw walking out the door was the 100% pure on the label) man I hope you guys don't tell me I f'd up big time! I should say I've only
had this truck about a month and haven't really tested what the mileage
is but have just gotten done with tuning it up pretty much (I can tell my mileage is better already from the tuneup) and I want the
best mileage I can get for going on vacation. I live in IA and have been using ethonal which is cheapest but 87 is only 5c more. I've got a few
questions however.. Can I find one of these plug in gadgets for testing
mileage cheap or do they cost a lot? The link to the one doesn't work anymore. Also, how the hell do I lug around a gas can if I want to do it
this way going on vacation? Maybe I can't but I wanted to be gentle to
my filler hose. Also, is it safe to keep this little 16oz plastic bottle of acetone in a hot car with the windows up? That's all I can think of now,
I don't even know if this theory has been completely debunked by now or what?

I use only 100% acetone in my testing.

You don't need any device to calculate mileage, Simple divide the miles traveled by the gallons of gas used to get MPG.

I use a long neck funnel and add the acetone directly to the fuel tank just before filling. No need to mix it prior to adding,

I carry my 100% acetone on every road trip; no problems. Just be careful of spilling it.

Good luck and please post your mileage data,

How long does this long neck funnel need to be? And where to get just
straight pure acetone? Is the stuff in the can at Wal Mart and HOme Depot 100% pure?

I usually purchase my acetone at Home Depot.

You can get a long neck funnel at any auto parts store.

Emission results with acetone

Just had my New York State motor vehicle safety inspection with Enhanced Emissions test done and my results were interesting. I have been using 1 oz. Acetone (the same can that ALDIVE pictured above from Home Depot) per 10 gallons of 87 octane gasoline for over 4 months now. Aside from a cleaning using SeaFoam, there have been no engine modifications.

NYS emission maximum limits:
Hydrocarbons = 1.60
Carbon monoxide = 40.00
NOx = 2.50

Pre-acetone results:
HC = 0.34
CO - 8.03
NOx = 0.79

Yesterday's inspection results:
HC = 0.24
CO = 5.63
NOx = 0.64

Those tests look good.
Aldive, that would be the same exact can I saw also so it must be just pure acetone then, I was looking for the 100% on it.
You sure that funnel is getting it all the way to the tank?

It will get it all the way to the tank unless his filler tube is broken!! :D

It , of course, does not reach the tank. Why would it need to reach the tank? It is used to keep from spilling any acetone on my paint.

The can says 100% acetone on the label.

Well, looking at this same can at the store I didn't see a 100% anywhere,
I must have overlooked it. Without seeing it for sure I didn't want to assume it since it's critical. My eyes aren't the best and I was tired while I was shopping anyway.
As far as the funnel I thought that we were worried about acetone touching the inlet hose to the tank, which I was assuming was rubber. Maybe it isn't or you're not worried about it or whatever, I
was just trying to pick up on everything I read on the topic. I still don't
know a lot about this truck yet.

have you guys tried experimenting with MEK? (methyl-Ethyl-Ketone) There were some hotrods built in the 80s running over 1000+hp and they used MEK. I think that it is crazy expensive though, like $18 for one of those gallon jugs. :eek: cant remember though. Whats the price of the acetone? I will run some tests with the acetone and then the MEK if anyone is interested...
