Other than the most popular aero mods such as lowering, adding airdams, deflectors, and removing roof racks, what other mods have you guys and girls done to your explorer based vehicle.

Have any of you changed the shape of the body itself, covering air collecting pockets such as in the grill or fog light area, add or make a body pan or underside panel for your vehicle, etc.

In the ownership of my explorer, over as many years as I'll have it, probably forever or until it takes it's last breathe, I would like to improve the aerodynamics as much as can, little by little. I will eventually over the next few years probably buy the lund windjammer and the airdam and others, but it will take awhile. For me, this is a hobby, along with many others that I will do occasionally, whenever I have time with school, work, and obligations first.

Please posts ideas and pictures of your mods. Thanks

Anyway you dress a brick, it's still a brick!

True, but I want to have some fun with it. Just look at the gas mileage Al Franklin is getting. Although most of his is mechanical.

I think you'll spend more than you save, but then that is just my opinion.

I've done all the internet tricks I could to our Nissan 200sx and only managed to "squeeze" 32 mpg out of it on a nice no air conditioner day. Read into this if you will.

Carguy3J.....LOL That is hillarious!

you might wanna check out www.ecomodder.com. thats where ppl go to extremes for gas savings.

As was said here- we have vehicles that have the same aerodynamics as a loaf of bread. :D

Don't waste your money. Aero mods aren't going to help an Explorer. By the time they got to the point of being useful, the thing's gonna look like an oversized Prius... As mentioned, any way you dress it, it's still got the aerodynamics of a shoebox.

Just lift it, lock it, and take it through mud on weekends. Now THATS fun.
But maybe not so fun when you have to wrench under it and the mud covers your face - keep it on the rocks :)

it called character building, since mud ain't for sissies;)

It's pretty easy to get better mileage out of an Explorer.....

Drive truck into garage...lift radiator cap...pull truck out....Put Focus in garage without a radiator cap....Put the Explorer radiator cap on the Focus...voila!...better mileage!!

:p:

Well my grandma owns a Focus I can try this on.
