If I mount an aftermarket amp (Lanzar 215 for the subwoofer and maybe a second bigger one for the other speakers) in the location where the stock amp is (behind the panel by the passenger rear wheel) do I have to do anything to let the heat out? I was thinking I might have to drill some vent holes.

Is anyone experienced? I'm just trying to practice safe sound you know.

Quite a few people have mounted amps there, it looks great. As for the venting, I would think that the large grille opening would serve as a good enough vent hole?!

You would have room to mount an amp in the storage area but i doubt that there would be room for any size amp in the stock amp location.

Good luck.....

My 92 4dr does not have a grill vent in the panel over the wheel well. The amp is Size: 10.88"W x 2.1"H x 8.3"L, 300 Watts Total Output

Both of my amps are mounted there, havent had a problem yet...

Thanks, sorry to hear you got your stuff ripped off.

mines mounted in there. here a pic

Looks good. I need to try and mount mine forward of that because I am putting a Clarion subwoofer enclosire there with a Rocford Fosgate 8" Punch sub.

I seriously doubt there will be any room for an amp that size in a more foward location.

Let us know....

If you put in a fan, cooling should not be a problem, however, tuning the amp will be a pain. You may want to consider an access panel with a fan and vent hole built in. This will only require you to cut one hole.

As far as the fitment, what I did was make templates out of scrap plywood or anything you have lying around the garage to represent the amp or amps you are considering. Make sure it fits in the location you want before ordering. This is a cheap tool to use during the planning stages. I made 3-4 of these templates, and the exercise really helped.

Now your going to get me all nervous and I am going to have to bundle up and go out in this cold weather and tear my insides apart to check... you are ruining my whole day Al. :hammer: I was going to clean the garage. :o Anybody know the dimensions of the 92 stock amp? If it is at least 2" thick I think I may be safe. But... to make sure, I am going out to rip into my truck...see what you started Al...

Okay... I hope you're happy now Al...

1. None of my trim buttons survived the attack
2. There is more than enough room to mount one or two amps in front of the subwoofer enclosure
3. My 5 year old daughter asked me if I was building a house out of my truck.

I had to take it off anyway... never put off to next year what you can do today, I always say. :D

This shows the amount of space. If you mounted the amps back to back, you could get at least two where the stock one was.

How in the world would you get TWO amps in that space? One maybe, but two? Unless you get the really really small ones that are like 25W, I don't think you're gonna make it!

If you look where those wires are, that is where the stock amp goes, and it sticks out towards the center of the truck like the seat belt retractor in the background. Most of the wheel well is covered up with the interior panel, leaving room on both sides of that channel that the window rests on.

I only have one to mount right now, and it is going to go where the stock one goes, basically hanging on the inside of that channel.

I got 2 amps in t here with no problem. An RF 800.2 and a Kenwood KAC-849. Works great, AND it prevented them from stealing my amps when my car got broken into on Saturday.

Well that's good news, but how did you get back there to tweak the amps?

Once I tweaked them, I just put the panel back on, havent tweaked them since, should I be tweaking the amps more frequently? If there is a good reason to, fill me in please, always looking to make things sound better..thanks
