air horns

Mine are kinda ghetto. I'm runnin an AC pump for on board air, I simply hooked my horn directly to it, much louder than those crappy electric pumps, I probably use it at least once a day on someone :D

I have the $20 Wolo kit and I agree that its much louder than stock. Annoying as heck too.

i just mounted a pair of horns off a freightliner, currently powered by a 5 gallon air tank in the back:thumbsup:

that sounds like a happy medium between the wolo and the train horn

Here's a question....

I'd love to mount an air compressor in my truck so I'd have something to connect air tools to. Is it possible to run both an air horn off the same compressor?

I'm thinking yes because you could just "T" into the line or have quick disconnects. If so, anyone have this kind of setup yet?

Jeff I have a old Whelen power air horn that is just asking to be installed in your explorer :D

as long as you throw an air tank in that equation some where. I see no reason why not. Although I do not know what PSI those compressors for air horns put out into the air tank.

Wouldn't that be cool? One day you come out into the parking lot and you have a flat tire. Just get out the air tools and you would have your flat switched in seconds! lol yes!

Oh boy...keep us posted on that!

Yes you can get 1 compressor and 1 tank. The thing will probably run like crazy running air tools, but a nice viair compressor and 5gal tank is a good start. Sometime the dodge will get this with the horn blaster horns as they're fun (will match my 4 caddy horns) and I have air suspension which needs to be filled when i add a load behind it.

When wiring up the Wolo kits, the instructions that come with them (which are somewhat confusing) show a pushbutton horn switch wired to the relay. Couldn't you just disconnect your original horn, and use the wires for that to trigger the relay rather than installing a pushbutton? Then when you hit the horn, the air horn should sound, no?

installed 3 train horns (literally) with a 5 gal tank and dual compressors running 180 lbs of pressure. THEY ARE AWSOME!!! I am going to run a 10gal tank on my x soon, but I am going to run truck semi horns (no tickets), and use the tank for on board air to fill up my tires... :-)

Ummmm..... ok.... why? Where you trying to kill small animals with the press of a button?? LOL

I mean, OVERKILL MUCH?!

I hate trains and their darn horns...live right by RR tracks.....

And where did you get 3? That's like $1000 in HORNS....!

1 set of 3 horns. Just like on the acctual trains :-) He got them fro Christmas of all places ($450 for the kit I think)

That's how I have it on my explorer, but with an air horn, the extra "oomph" that you get using the relay helps out.

I plan on using the relay, but rather than having a button to trigger it, I figured I could hook the relay to the original horn wiring.

Oh, well then yes, that will work just fine. I thought you meant just unplugging the stock horns and use those wires to power the air horn compressor (which is how my explorer is hooked up [ghetto]). :)
