Sounds like some part of my engine is sucking air that shouldnt be, like a vacuum leak or something of the sort.

Their is a hissing sound coming from the right side of the engine block, cant see or feel any air or anything wrong.

The truck idles rough and dies quickly, especially cold, and is getting worse. It has been doing this for about a week now.

The check engine light was not on when I first noticed this problem. It has since come on once or twice but has not stayed on.

anyone know what this might be?

The IAC idle air control is known for making sound like a whooooooo-ing. A whislte of sorts.
There's likely a Youtube vid of it.

There's a sticky on how to clean one.

check your vacuum tree for any vac leaks. (drivers side rear on the head, beside the brake booster)

Btw, is the 'right side' as you are looking at the motor? i.e. the drivers side?

Let us know what side the "right" side is, you mean drivers side?

Could possibly be the brake booster line, but check all the vacuum hoses, even on my older 95, it seemed like those hoses were needing replacements as they were looking dryrotted as all hell.

yes by right side I meant the drivers side. I have not tried to clean the IAC, so I will try that but I have a feeling it has something to do with this hising noise. Sounds like a compressor letting out air.

I have been looking around but unable to see anything visibly wrong. What would you guys suggest for finding a leak like that?
