Alternate side mirrors for '02 Explorer

Hi, my passenger side mirror was recently broken due to a hit and run, and i'm trying to find a cheap replacement. Can i only use 3rd generation mirrors with it or could i use older ones as well?

So far 3rd and 4th generation mirrors are the only ones compatible I know of.

You can get very cheap replacements on eBay.
