I was out last night riding my bike around town with a couple guys I know from school, and I saw this suburban with it's right turn signals on, it was like the X with two bulbs for each blinker, and they alternated, first the top one, then the side one. Within 5 minutes on the same road at the next stop light, I saw a little honda (not riced out believe it or not) with the same set up.

My question is, is it possible to do this to my X? To have the inside bulb flash first, then the side one?

Considering old technoligy Cougars and T-birds of the 60's had 3 to 4 lights alternating as the turn signals, it should be easy to do....

Any ideas on how to do this?

Not only possible but easy.
Cut the ground wire from the sidemarker light and tap it into the hot lead for the turn signal.
The sidemarker will flash w/turn singals when lights are off and alternate w/turnsignals when lights are on.
Sidemarker will still light normaly when lights are on.

Bill, have you done this?

Yup. I did it on the Caddy. I didnt think I would like the look on the X & now the Merc. doesnt use a seperate side marker bulb.

There were three wires in those bulbs, a "Major" a "Minor" and a ground....what one do i tap into?

I assume you mean in the turn signal socket. There are three wires...Ground..Parking lights & turn signal.
You want to run the ground wire from the marker light to the wire that activates the turn signal.
The Usual colors are: Ground=Black Parking=Brown & turn signal is whats left.
Yours may be different so a test light isnt a bad thing to have. $5. or so at Wally world, Kmart ect.

Bill, I did that and i blew the fuse to my turn signals....

Tell me what color wires you have in the blinker light and what color wires you have in the marker light and what color wires you put together.
It does work...just got to get the right wires.
Let me know...

I just got done doing this. You tap the ground (black) from sidemarker, to turn (green + blue). It took about 10 minutes total, pretty cool if you ask me. Click the link below to see a video of the left or right.

Here's a crude drawing, seems straight forward to me though. The colors are accurate for my first gen at least, but the turn signal wire has a blue stripe.

I missed it too. Gonna have to go out and look at my turn signals again....

The corner light was blinking, if you put on your blinker, you'd see only the running light blinks.

But I had my lights off, so it was blinking with the running light. With the lights on they alternate.

could you put up a video w/ your lights on?

I would think that having the lights on/off wouldn't effect the blinking part?

but what do I know =)
