hey i am new to the site. after reading on here that a 16 year old who owns an explorer cant afford it and should just sell it, i decided to prove em wrong. I own a 1995 ford explorer 4x4. I have a part time job at grocery store and going to school. And i am doin just fine. www.geocities.com/socalrider11/ there are some pics there of my truck.
modifications: I cranked up the torsion bars, put a 40 series flowmaster muffler on it, a k&n air filter,remote start alarm, sony cd player, 12 rockford fozgate sub with a 600 watt amp,31 10.50 15 all terain tires with 058 series eagle alloy rims, and thats just about it. so i love my car and am very happy with the way it has treated me... later

Glad you're having good luck with your truck. I also bought mine when I was 16. I paid for the truck and the mods, and my parents pay gas and insurance. We split maintenance costs. Sometimes comments made on this site are a little tongue-in-cheek and generalized. No worries, welcome to the fold!

Don't flame me please.. 16 year old here part time worker ($10/hr) and school...Parents pay for car, insurance, gas, you name it. Pay half for all my mods. Recently bought me a 79 Z28 and dumped 17G into restoration. I don't ask for stuff like that my dad is trying to relive his childhood I think.

Hell ya I'm jealous! All I can get from my grandparents are socks and underwear at Christmas!

I just find it funny how easily that teens and even young men can forget how much support they get from their parents/grandparents. They almost sound unappreciative or ungrateful. But this is all in good fun! I don't mean to judge anyone.

in Australia you guys have similar wages to us (eg grocery worker $10.00 p'h) we have the same but when you convert it you have to double all your prices and that is what all our parts cost.... we also have to add postage and handling....... You can by a new explorer xlt for $28000 for us to buy a new xlt it is almost $60000 for the same car all because of the currency difference. Remember if your grocery wage is $10 p/h that is almost $20 p/h here.....

Come on! I read that Explorer FAQ thing; who says a 16 (or 17) year old can't also have a *****in' Ex? I'm 17, full time high school student, part time cashier, full time Ex enthusiast. It's working out great, and I still got money in the bank for later on.

Also, just out of curiosity, how did you guys get your parents to pay for mods? That's rediculous! You have no idea how jealous I am

I think that dumping unheard of amounts of money into a car is the best thing that will ever happen. But I think that the money should be dumped into a good car or truck, not a half breed wanna be pickup. I love my explorer as much as the next guy, I just think that the big bucks should be spent on cars like corvettes, cameros, mustanges, and pickups. Not an SUV (who ever coined that gay term anyway?).
I also pay for everything on my explorer, my insurance, and all the parts i need. Many people do
