Another OHV M90 build

Here's parts list from RockAuto. I just placed the order.
Machine shop called and is recommending .02 over on the pistons.
I'm going to get them to assemble the bottom end (Minus oil pump).

I'll source the harmonic balancer bolt. Now, what am I missing? We all know Im missing something, I cant help that nagging feeling.

Im at work and on my phone so cant search.but what oil pan gaskets is that?the sohc is two gaskets.also the pump screen needs to be one for sohc also and is a two piece as well.

The engine gaskets kit should come with the crankshaft seal but not a sohc pan gaskets.

I checked the part number on the sohc pan gasket, and the ohv pan gasket. Same part number.

So, I ordered the gasket kit, and a sohc pan gasket for Tim.
That should cover us both off.

The crank seals, and repair sleeves were ordered as on the rear main I wanted the best (PTFE) due to parinoia. I also ordered repair sleeves for front and rear of crank, due to more paranoia. Those two spots seemed to be the major areas of leaking in my motor.

I may not need the repair sleeves, but wanted the option.

Better double check that.i know they don't use the same gasket.sohc uses two gaskets.it is two pans not one like ohv.

upper SOHC gasket is prob the same. but yes, there is two gaskets for those pans. one that goes from the block to the pan, and one that goes to the pan to a lower......um......plate?

****, the oil pickup might be wrong. I ordered the ohv.

I just called rock auto and had a SOHC oil screen(Pickup) ordered also.

Just in case Tim wants to button up his sohc with my ohv pan, I left the ohv pickup on the order. Tim gets the OHV pan, new pickup, and Gasket.

Pretty sure upper was different also.cant remember why but had to return it for some reason,i think.

Im not going to bother changing the oil pan plate gasket. Now you have me wondering if I should.

The pan is two parts as well as the pick up tube.you have to pull the two parts apart.install first piece of pick up tube.then install first part of oil pan, then crank cap bolts, which the crank cap bolts go thro first part of pan supporting/tying all the caps together. then install the 2nd half of pick up that has the screen, then the plate or last part of oil pan.its a 5 step process.

Oh, I had no idea. So I do need it.
I did manage to get the 2nd oil pan gasket added to my order. That's 2 changes to my order(2 seperate phone calls)

I'm sure I'm driving the Rock Auto customer support crazy.

Check my last post.i edited it.it sounds like a pain in the ass but your see how much extra support it gives and you will be able to check the pump/screen or bottom of motor with out pulling the whole pan like the ohv.there is some other steps also but we can talk about that when you go to install it.

I picked up the rods, and a kitchen food scale.
I'll weigh the rod caps and make them all weigh the same, then I'll do the same for the rods.

The invoice will be $500.00 to clean and bore the block, polish the rods and install the crank, rods, and pistons.

I ordered new push rods as I think mine are 5.52(5?) currently. They came from Delta cams, so I'm not exactly sure the length. I'm really afraid of having that annoying ticking from the motor.
By my calculations with .020 shaved off my heads, I need length of 5.535. They up-sold me to the hardened rods at Smith Bros.

At Summit, the dual rate springs are on back order till oct 15th. I don't think this will slow me down too much though. On Monday I should have the pistons and crank. I'll be able to balance the pistons , and take everything(Crank, pistons, rods, and crank seals) in to the machine shop on Tuesday.

Maybe by the end of October I'll have the new motor installed.

WOW! i know where im going next time i need a motor machined!

they are putting new cam bearings in to correct?

Yes, I ordered the new cam bearings from Rockauto, so I'll take them in with the other parts.

Yea that's pretty good price from machine shop.they going to do the machine work to fit the valve springs and install them also?know its early but you talked to James about a retune ?

The heads will be a separate issue, and cost. Ill take them in as soon as my motor comes out. I might even pull them with the motor still in, it depends on Tims schedule.
Id be able to install the heads from the donor motor for pulling the engine out of my truck.

Once the heads are out, I'll take them to the machine shop for the new 988 valve springs, and to have them vacuum tested again to make sure all the valves are sealing nice and tight.

re-tune? James said 'no problem, whenever your ready send me a log'
