Any Detroit EZ Pros in the House?

Duuude. I used 3 grinders, the welder, the plasma, and the sledge hammer today. :D It was a good fab-day.

So what did you make?

I tore the axle out, then apart. I cut the perches off, lowered them a little, and rotated them back for 5/6 degrees of caster.

Oh, and I torched the shock mounts off too. Gonna make some new ones on the top of the axle instead of behind the axle where they were.

Then I made a pot holder for sarah out of expanded steel and a tire iron.

What about doubling up the springs? If I remember right my old lockright had 2 spings that went together in each of the 4 holes.

Edit: Also are there any notches in the cross shaft? If there are that could be part of teh reason why it is not locking up.

Oh right right, I forgot you mentioned changing the caster.

My rear locker uses double springs too. So I do have a set. I could try them.

Matt.. here's my shaft.

Springs wont make any difference, the force the cross-pin exerts on the drivers is far greater than anything those springs could ever produce.

I had the same thing in the rear of my old 8.8, I took it all apart and it looke good to me, but when I had someone who is a little more familiar look at it he showed me where the teeth were worn down.

That was 5 years ago but the guy said it was the first EZ locker he saw get totally worn down.

Probably just time to shop for something new. Go Detroit full on, buy the best and cry once.

Are you using the same carrier as Colin or are you using your old one? Maybe the carrier is worn down for the cross pin?

Detroits are good but they like to go boom when an axle shaft breaks.

Thought:

Inspect the teeth to see if they are worn down on the sides.

If the interface between the teeth are indeed "worn down" -- what if you swapped the halves so that what used to be on the driver's side is now on the passenger's? The idea is that the worn interface is now on the "Reverse" side but it should lock going forward. Just a thought.

I finally got the locker issue resolved.

I just hope it works now!
