anyway to tell if trans is good or bad??

thing is i bought a 99 explorer and im selling the trans out of it, but the truck did not run, i dont want to sell a bad trans, can i tell if its good or bad without truck not running??

best you'll be able to do is smell the fluid, if it smells burnt the truck MIGHT have slight issues. My fluid smelled like it had never been changed in 154k but i dont have any issues

I agree. Mine smells burnt but its ok too. Could just be that the fluid hasn't been changed recently.... But who wants to buy a vehicle that hasn't been taken care of on the other hand.
