2013 explorer xlt
Yesterday just bought a 2013 ford explorer from who I thought was a reputable dealer but they sold Lexus not Ford. There were two recalls on it what you think they would have fixed or had fixed before they sold the car. Today the camera doesn't work for the backup and it appears that apim is bad. Is there a way to check the apim to see if it's bad. I've already seen a couple videos on the back of camera that says it could be a ground problem or a harness problem I'm going to check those when I get a chance.

APIMs were a real problem with the early 5th gen Explorers. I'm hoping someone with experience can jump in and give you some advice.

Welcome to the Forum.
Given the age of the camera, I would guess that it needs to be replaced. If you have the active guidelines then it will also have to be programmed to your vehicle. As for the APIM, I am not aware of any way to test it. I believe that it can be 'reset' with FORScan.
What are the outstanding recalls?

Peter

I have a 14. Had the same problem with the camera, Navigation failure, Bluetooth connectivity issue. Ford was able to diagnose a failed APIM, and a defective camera. The failed APIM throws a diagnostic code, can't remember what it is. The APIM was replaced and the camera. However, the dealership had my Explorer for 5 months trying to fix navigation. Whomever replaces your APIM needs to install the Navigation application in addition to enabling it in the APIM. Their failure to do that got the GPS antenna replaced, the USB hub, and a 2nd APIM without resolving the Navigation issue. I found the answer on the "enable Navigation when not factory installed" thread.

The plus side to not having my car, driving a new 2023 F150 every month.
