2020 Ford Explorer ST
Hello there! Really hoping I can get some help. 2020 Explorer ST with Technology package. No issues with this problem up until today. So I plug in my phone to AppleCar Play as I always have (USB-C) and now the volume knob and steering wheel controls will only adjust the prompt volume and not the actual music volume. Even when I switch over to radio, it still only controls the prompt volume.

Funny thing... other iPhone works just fine.

Any tips? Thank you so much in advance!

Same thing here. I don't auto update my iPhone, so I'm thinking it's a Sync issue, or individual app. Happens with my iphone 11 Pro with iOS 13.4.1.

That's a long time for your first post.;)

I have had this problem and tried different things. Some one said delete Waze, because of a problem with the latest update. I deleted Waze on my phone and immediately the volume went back to media instead of prompt.

That's the complexity of this. Is it Sync 3? Is it Carplay? Is it an App?

Recently I noted several times when connecting my iphone to USB that music from my app starts playing after Carplay is initiated. It is noticeably low quality like it's going through as a phone call. On the car's display, AUDIO says off!!! Volume control or power dial/button don't do anything. WTH. I have to disconnect my phone and restart the app. Sometimes twice, before things return to normal.

Apparently, Waze always runs in the background, therefore deleting the app is the only solution right now. This subject is being discussed in several forums.

hey do you have links to those other forums or what to search? This was the only thread I could find on this discussion and we're suffering from the same bug. Thanks!

Thanks! ... also should have asked (since I wasn't trying to drive traffic to other forums, this one is the most updated and informative!) ... has anyone talked to their dealer about this issue...is it known?

Thanks!

One solution mentioned was to make a phone call, and then immediately hang up. I'm sure they will fix this eventually. For me, this problem is not all the time so I think I'll just try that.

I do use Waze so do not want to delete it from my phone. To me, one of the best features of Carplay is that as soon as I connect my phone, Waze is already active and I do not have to open the app everytime.

I have lived in the same city for 65 years now and have never had any real use for navigation. Occasionally I will search for an address using google maps or apple maps. When i plug in phone for CarPlay, Apple maps is the default. I do use the Escort Live app for alerts, etc.

I will install it and try it out.
thanks for the update.

Can confirm, fixed for me with Waze update.

You can pick which apps run in the background, and you can certainly turn Waze off. Also, if the app is closed it doesn’t run.

the point is mute now, the app has been updated and is working correctly.

The point isn’t *moot* since it’s accurate information correcting inaccurate information.
