Are shorter shocks necessary?

I plan to do a 3" block in the rear but instead of flipping the adjuster keys, I bought the lowering adjusters from airbagit.com. (nice pieces btw)

I recently bought new Rancho 5000 for stock height trucks and I really don't want the added expense of having to buy shocks again.
