Uh, oh...Rick made a boo-boo...He forgot to ask Char what her schedule was before he posted the poll! :nono:

Grr...I guess I'll just have to have a barbeque at my place for all of us East-Coasters, lol...

Cinders!

Were planning to be there! I reserving my buddies' trailer right now. Rick, I noticed you use the equalizer bars on your weight distrubuting hitch. Do these give you more stability, or is it just easier on the truck? I just aquired the chain cams for the trailer tongue, so I can hook up my weight distributing bars.

Ray, it keeps everything within "specs". Trailer hitches are rated for one weight without an equalizing hitch and another... higher weight for when you use the equalizing hitch.

Since we now have a camper and the 2ft long extention bar we have to run the equalizer bars to keep us within the limits of the hitch design.

Without the extention bar I used the bars as a degree of overkill, it puts less stress on the hitch and spreads the load over both axles of the tow vehicle more evenly than without.

Well I am considering going but it looks like I would be the only stocker there. Would I have any probs? I have a limited slip and bfg at's. Looks like there is more to do than just what I have seen so I might go.

rick i think i told u last night but i plan on being there sounds good

Thanks for the offer Tom. I might take you up on that. More than likely my dad will come along too. But we can put him on the roof. I'm like Colin at this point. I have to see how money is and work.

In the words of our friend Kevin Kocher describing me on one of the trails at Truckhaven..I hear this over the CB. "You digging a hole to China?" I did make it through too.

Count me in.
I will probabally have to meet you up there Friday night or Saturday morning as I will not be able to get the day off work. We can pick a place to meet and pick a CB channel to help locate each other. Do Cell phones get a signal up there?

I'm definately in on this one! I've been waiting for a run close to home and this sounds great. I'll be looking forward to it.

Craig

Cinders

Thanks Rick for the sway bar info. I think I'll "overkill" too.

Hammer97: When the time gets a little closer we'll pick CB and Ham coordinating and travel frequencies, etc. like we usually do, and they'll be published here in the thread.

Rick, I repaired my Kenwood TM742 tribander, and since it has 100 memory channels per band, I programmed in some AZ repeaters on 2m and 440, along with So Cal ones. Several were for the Flagstaff area. Do you have experience about which one's cover the Cinders area? Do you have any favorites for the Phoenix area also?

Accomodations

Hey Rick, Char, or Anyone Else Who Knows,

Deb wants to know: What are the camping, motel, or ??? accomodations at Cinders? Any reccomendations? Yeah, Rick & Char, I know, you guys will be bringing along the "Horwitz Hilton" but we po-folk gotta stay someplace too! :)

Cinders

We'll be there! Sounds like fun.
Do we need to make camping reservations early?
Rick

If you camp at the Cinders with us there is no reservation needed. You just pick a site and circle the Explorers. If it's a busy weekend we might have to hunt just a little bit.

As far as if you want to hotel it, there are dozens and dozens of hotels. A few we have stayed at and would stay again are (don't know cost):

Americana - nice, nothing fancy
Hampton Inn and Suites - fancy

There are the usual national chains. I'll give you more info if I have time to look.

What is the schedule going to be for the weekend. Are we meeting friday night up at the cinders or in pheonix. also what day is the BBQ going to be on. Let me know so I can start to plan when i have to leave and when I will be getting back.

Matt

Camping

Rick,
What are the amenities at the camp sites? Running water, bathrooms...?
Thanks,
Rick

Think of Truckhaven... There is nothing at the campsites. There is a KOA nearby though.

Roughing it...

OK Thanks. Time to buy a portapotty!

Ditto on Matt's questions. I plan to be there, too.

I just want to bring this thread back up since I'm back in town.

First, I want everyone to realize that the Cinders is not really hard core fourwheeling. It may prove to be difficult for some vehicles to negotiate due to lack of flotation, but that's about it. As I have stated the area is very scenic and it's a great place to go to get away from the desert heat.

Second, how many days of trail runs? FRI and SAT and BBQ in Phoenix on Sunday? Or just run Saturday and BBQ on Sunday. My house is almost exactly 2hrs from Flagstaff.

About 30 minutes from my house is a great place for rock crawling. The area is at the Table Mesa Rd. exit. One of the trails, Raw Deal, is right off the main road and can be run in just a couple hours if there is no breakage.

Let me know what you want to do.
