Matt, even the fearless have a pucker factor. I personaly dislike off camber to the drivers side. I still think a quick run through the quarry would set the mood. You with a sport will be more at home there than a xlt like mine. If you like, we could do a pre run. On my last trip there on the 2nd, I was watching my line and forgot to watch my roof line and tried to remove my targa bar. (sometimes too high will hurt). Lots of trees here. Not like out in the desert on them rocks.:-)

Riff, if you want to do a prerun, try to get another explorer to go and I will go too.(I don't think my zuke could pull you out). It would have to be on a Saturday for me to make it. How about Matt?

Hey guys.....I am comming down saturday morning....On the average how long is the drive? That will depend on when I leave.....CAM....like I said depending on the time, maybe we can caravan...I'm western suburbs....I dunno where you're at....But when I get there I'ev gotta change all 4 tires...My friend is driving down his 90 Toyota 4x4 w/33 A/T's extended cab...He's hoping he can get in cause his girl is suppose to ride with him and I got my best bud and possibly my girl...Don't worry, I've got my room taken care of...Um, So yeah, I've gotta change tires, cause like hell I'm gonna drive all the way down there on boggers and trash em.....Are real tow hooks necessary? Lemme know cause I've gotta pick up a set of clevis for the front b/c I've got construction size tractor chain to hang between my fraim rails....I've only got stuck once and my frame was resting on a swamp muck wall and I was on bald A/t's...just checkin cause if they aren't necessary, then I'm only gonna get the fronts taken care of...Thanks all, Pete.

Driving diretions....I've checkd both Mapquest.com and Yahoo and they're telling me that I've gotta take back roads.....Is I-65 faster? If so then I gotta get an atlas to look it up.
Thanks....Pete

oh yeah....tow hooks are real nice....though i don't know exactly what you mean by "real".......basically, i think that what we will pull with, when one is stuck, are tow ropes.....i've got 2...one used, and one new....and i know kampy has one...of course, he has a winch too, so im not sure how that will come into play......hell..my tow hooks are just the kind from Parts America...and i just bolted them to the existing holes in the frame.

i check with the park today, just to make sure that all of us will be able to run there.....she said that they are still letting rangers and whatnot on there....so we will all be able to wheel......and we are ok to have passengers in the back seat too, because it's enclosed.....

she also gave me an update of the trails...the only thing that we have to watch is in the orange trail. there is a mud pit, that is now mud all year long. the depth is shoulder length, so watch out.......but the good thing is, is that all mud holes have ways around them....

who else is already pumped?!!?!?! i know i am!!!

how do you think it will be with 31's.....and a 5.5" lift!!! unless i can find a cheap set of 33's real quick, i just might be wheeling with some small tires on a big lift!!

Travel

JJW-Andre and I have already been talking about a pre-run Sat morning. Check some of the earlier posts on the page before this.

RFR, I will be traveling down on sat too, EARLY. I live in the north subs, but will be going by midway to pick up RichSport. Let me know if you want to hook up on the way down.

I will be taking 90/94 to 65 and then straight down on 34, piece of cake! The drive time will be about 2.5-3 hours.
I have it all mapped out.

I'm thinking like, wow! this is gonna be something but wait now, are we all gonna do same stuff or we'll split and do whatever people want to do? I know none of the stockers will go on an orange trail and begining of the green one still makes me nervous (that's where I got hung-up, lol). Old querry seems like a perfect place to kick it around a bit. If there's a way to go around these three hills at the begining of the green I can tackle the rest and then see what's next in store. I might even put the 2" suspension lift for added clearence but then I would love to get 33's on my baby. Heck, seems like plenty to do. It's not the end of the world you know, there's always next time.

:-)

2001-I'm lookin to head down on I-65 and I think I may leave at say 7 in the morning.....Otherwise, I think my friend should get in, he's ranger size...I was meaning like the real tow hook(gm style, ect.) But I believe if I can get a clevis that goes all the way through the frame, I'll be fine...I've got one two chain, my friend has a chan and tow strap and I think I'm gonna pick up another one...I am totally stoked, and as of now, if everyone, or most everyone bails, 2 things will happen....1 I will still be there wheelin with my friend...Secondly, I would send a letter of dissatisfaction to every and copies of pictures to show them the time they missed out on:) Naw, we've got this fairly well organized...I don't think they will(Knock on wood)...Pete

matt....i saw (i think) in another thread that you are going to take off your nerf bars.....do you realize that by doing this, you will definately increas the chances of body damage to your rig? i just wanted to make sure that you knew that before you took em off.....

oops....i keep forgetting to mention things.......when i talked to the people at the badlands....i asked about the RTI ramp....they are going to have it setup, and we don't have to pay anything to use it...so that might be kinda fun, ya know? its right around the other side of where we check in....

The RTI ramp is where you air up and power wash. Its a 30 degree ramp and up all year round. The end is like 48 to 50 inches tall. By pre run I meant go down a couple a weeks early and plot a trail or two.

If I'm not mistaken, JJW's post said they've got a spot to air back up? I had this in my mind and wasn't sure...Thanks Pete

Andre,

The green trail has more than one entrance remember. Also, I bet if we look hard enough (i.e. ask) we can find another way to drop down without going over that one spot that Cam flew over. That is the trail that I am gonna run again. I think that I am going to look for other ways into that trail as well.

Dave

There's plenty of room there to be doing whatever your heart desires. I don't mind going over that one hill since I'm 3" higher and might be going up another 2". Green trail sounds good to me and then just end-up in the old querry. I'll see how it goes for Kampy on Orange trail b/c I know he's gonna do it and see if that's something for me, beginner b/c that's what I am. It's gonna be my second off road trip. Now, I got the GM tow hooks front and back so getting stuck doesn't really bother me as long as I have someone around to bail me out. Fun, fun, fun. Can't wait!!

:-)

I need to get another tow hook for the front. Hopefully, the damned financial aid people will get off their (we're sorry, this part of the message is censored because of it's graphic nature and this being a "family" site. Please stand by until the message is clean.) Once they send me the money I'll be able to get a few things done before the run. No, not lifting, just general maintenance.

Dave

Pete, yes there is a place to air up. The air, ramp, and power wash are all together. The air is free, the wash is not but I don't remember how much it is.

Riff, Matt.....any takers on a pre run?

Kampy, if you are going to do the orange, will the group split in two? One for orange, one for green?

For the guys that went last time. Where did you enter the green trail? By the pit stop? tubes? sand dunes?

I really want to go but I won't know until the last minute. So if I show up it will be sometime on saturday. Real quick though, if I am just going to camp, do I need to make reservations?
Thanks
adam

Adam,
I think Summers camp ground is 15 minutes north of Attica off 55. It was 8 a night for primative but you need to call for good info. July was the last time I was there. Here is the number (765) 762-2832 .

Riff-It's damage anyway you look at it, nerf or no nerf. I haven't taken them off yet, but I might this weekend to see how it looks.

JJW-Sorry, I thought you were talking about the 14/15th.

RFR-Perfect, I will pick up Rich Sport around 6:30 and then hook up with you at 7. Do you want me to swing by your house or what? Bring your friend along too, the more the marrier. Let me know, because if not I am just going to head down after I pick up Rich.

All-Why don't we just meet up and then decide what we are doing?
