auto hubs VS manually locking

So you can lock 1 hub and drive like that at all times with no problems?

You could, but why? More wear and tear on parts and worse mileage.

I don't think so necessarily, since the autos should only lock up when you want them to. However, the autos are weaker than manuals and thus could fail under the load.

www.4wheelparts.com that is where I ordered my manual hubs. So much improvement. It cost @$200 for everything that you need. Not to mention that the tool for taking the manual hubs off is a hell of a lot cheaper then the rounded hex head socket for the auto hubs.
Do they have the spindle nut conversion kit also? Is that extra?

I personally would NOT run a locker in the front diff with Autohubs, a rear locker would be fine. In a standard open differential the force will take the path of least resistance. With a locked diff both wheels will be under power thus putting a ton of stress on the hubs. If you're only mild wheeling then autohubs would be ok, but a locker (IMO) isn't for mild wheeling..

Ok, say you DO have auto hubs and a locker. If you blow an auto hub is the vehicle still driveable?

Yeah, you can still drive I believe... the wheel that blew can no longer be powered though.

I imagine the locker will put extra strain on the auto hubs and there is a bigger chance of breakage... but I don't think I'm that worried about getting a locker before the warn hubs. I think they will hold up. I'm not rock-climbing or anything here in Jersey... mostly sand, mud and maybe some climbing.

The $200 covers the hubs and the conversion kit. The hubs are only @$160. The conversion is the only $40.

The vehicle is driveable provided you inspect the inside of the hub (and remove any broken components) to ensure they will not be moving around chewing up the stub axle spines...

$200 american is quite a bit canadian though, i dont think il be gettin any manual hubs anyday soon.

$200 for both hubs and conversion kit is better than $300 for 1 auto hub
