Auto to Manual Tranny convert

I have been thinking about changing out my auto tranny in my 91 XL 4x4 for a manual tranny. I am wondering for a ball park figure of how much this will cost me. I am aware that a clutch will have to be added, as well as it's hardware, also the brake pedal will need to be swapped to accomodate the clutch, adn some mods if not replacements to the inner steering column. An guesses as to how much this will cost?


Just call me a control freak, I like the manual tranny much better.

There have been a lot of threads about this already. Use the "search" function at the top of the page, use the words "auto" and "manual" in the criteria, then set it to check thread titles only. That should give you all you need. One more suggestion - IMHO, if you're going to bother swapping out the auto for a manual, don't waste time with the Mazda 5-spd, get a T5. The trannies in the Explorer (auto or manual) are not really strong, so you'd probably be better off going to a heavier unit. :smoke:
