Well, the title says is all, I am thinking of put 2 55/w lights in cut outs in my bumper as opposed to having them hanging below and getting ripped off again.

I am sure someone has done this before, will put post or send me some photos.

Thanks
Charlie

Charlie, Explorer Express did this on their project X Spec Explorer a few years ago. It looked damn good. You could see them in the photos in the catalog.

Maybe contact them and inquire.

Good luck .....

they are out of the way and look pretty good.

Froader, i thought about it but i just do not like the way it will look.

Al, thanks I will look to see if i like it

96 i will check to see if that will work on a 1 gen. but i am leaning to the bumper

it will work on a first gen also. not any different.

just an idea for a out of the way place.

I know you said bumper. But if you finished your roof cage that you were building, you could mount them up there as long as you point them down enough so not to blind the guy behind you. I used hella work lights that have two 55W bulbs each. Allthough mine are not intirley legal in my state cause any light mounted above the headlights are supposed to be covered. I just hope the cops see that mine are pointed at a sharp angle down. I sent pics of mine on your thread about roof cages.

Oh don't you worry i am going to put some up there, as for the bumper the more i think about it the less i like it, Too much mud, plus i think it may be over kill, :(

And I just took my last final for the year :D summer school starts on the 16th  10 days.

I have some extra steel so i am going to weld in some more braces, and get a price expanded metal, and paint, and mounts 48lbs so far

and Al i could not find the lights on EE, but it says on the site 40% 1st gen parts, and i found fender flars for $160, this is $90 hmmmmm

What if you got a mountaineer bumper with the red lenses integrated, replaced the lenses with clear and placed the lights behind the lenses?

I have a single $12 Wal Mart special fog lamp installed between the tubes of my rear bumper. I see no need for two.
It was simple to wire, I used the regular reverse feed from the trans sensor to switch on a relay, the relay powers the fog light. Mine comes on everytime I am in reverse, I could put a switch in the circuit so I could disable it, but I dont see the need.

This thing comes in real handy on the trail and when pulling the boat out of the water at night :) Great mod!
the stock reverse lamps are a JOKE! (but not as bad as some cars)

Next lighting project : rock lights.

Charlie another plus about mounting on cage is that if you wired it not only to come on in reverse but also by another switch as I did. It really illuminates a large area. In my case I do a lot of hunting and fishing and I often come back after dark. It really helps when loading all the gear. It also lights up the bed of the Chop top B11. So now the lights serve two purposes. That is the reason i went with the lights that I did. jThe Hella work lights reflect the light in an extremly wide pattern.

picture isnt the best, but it's EE's Explorer X

I had mine above the rear glass in the hatch. The only problem I had was the glare off the window from the lights made it hard to see. I now have them mounted to my spare tire rack which cuts out the glare on the window.

Here is my 1997 Mountaineer Bumper: Reflectors removed and 55w clear fog lights in place. The lights used to hang below the bumper, but kept getting busted.

Thanks, Al.

They work well too, and are recessed about a 1/2" inside the bumper. The lights are mounted into the base of the bumper, with spacers and longer bolts.

Fortunatley, the reflectors simply unscrewed from the gray plastic inserts, but the mounting holes were just outside the width of the lights I purchased. The holes can be seen up close. Wider lights would solve this minor cosmetic issue, but all of the wide lights I found were too tall.

wanted to do something similar but i wasn;t sure either..
