yea there are some hills on the green trail that will get your rockers, but there are ways around a few of the really bad ones ( but thats no fun) when we were there this summer Arnie897 who is on 33's with sliders put them to use on one of the other hills.....i made it over too, but lost on of the rocker cover things...the completely stock explorer had to be pulled over, but other than that a stock x can have tuns of fun out there either in the dunes, the quary, or if they dont mind the possiblity of a little damage on the green trail

here is my drivers side rocker after 2 trips there this summer, and its worse than it looks in the pic

body lift is going on tomorrow though :D...maybe some sliders and 33's by next year too :D

as long as my truck is still alive and gas isn't 20 bucks a gallon I will be there. I am not super far from there, for sure will be there Sunday but saturday also if I don't have to work.

maybe I toss a few mods on this thing in the meantime, I would be willing to drive it on any trail, it would probably get damaged and stuck but I am willing to try whatever

what are the most important mods after you have all the basic trail supplies? body lift? more tire? lockers? (they are such a treat on the street :)) sliders? what?

how much do you want to spend? depends on your budget. if i'm not mistaken i think you told me you were on 31's. unless you go bigger, a body lift would do nothing for you. i dont have mine installed yet, but i hear they do wonders. my powertrax for the 8.8 was less than 400 from rocky road outfitters(including s&h). you said you dont care about body damage, so i duno if you would even care to spend the money on sliders. but if you get bigger tires, then you'll need more lift, or a BL. so depending on your budget, you can go in all sorts of directions. but since (if i remember correctly) you have a sport, the smaller wheel base should help you out a bit, but i've never been to the badlands and i know arnie897 is a sport with sliders and he was using them last time he went. sorry i ramble, but i think you get the picture. heres a short list of mods(not all of em of course) with s&h included.

powertrax locker (front or rear bout the same price) - $400
shackles - $70
body lift - $100
tires - (depends if you get them used or new and what brand/type you get) rough guess is $200(used)-$800(brand new/name brand from) but my 33" BFG A/T's were $128 a piece at discount tire.
coil spacers - (have no idea since i cant use them on my truck but i dont think they are that expensive.)

good luck, hope to see you there since we didnt go to the badlands in august like i wanted to :( (stupid ranger drivers)

If you have a 4 door x, sliders are a must. This place used to be for short wheelbase rigs only. Now that is has been used for 6-7 years it is not as tight. The jeep traps and breakover angles on most of the hills will get your rockers. I would stick with a rear locker only if I had to pick. I ran my 94 with limited slip rear and open front on most of these trails with 6" lift and 33's. Rollovers are not much of an issue till you get on the pink (level 5) trail. Then it is only an issue if you really push the situation. Most everything has a bypass and there is plenty of room to stop and watch other people make a fool of themself. As long as yo have at least 3.73 gears, a body lift and 33" tires will take you most anywhere in the park. Like I told the other guy, just get some good tow points front and rear!!!

I'm in. My truck will be smokin' by the time this trip comes around....right now all the parts look pretty in boxes in the garage.

Dustin - I didn't see the trail damage before....hopefully the BL fixes that for next time....I may have some Perry fenders for sale here soon if I can squeeze my 35"s under the new lift without them...then you could fit some real tires under it :p ....see you tomorrow.

by then i will have a locker maybe front also+ 4:56's, and 33" mt/r's.I can get mr/r's for about $146-33"s $100 for dunlops mudrovers.I work for goodyear.. I have about 5" of lift ....and yes i will have rock rails!!! I will try anything once..but ill take the detours on the 5 trails...and prob need a tugging buddy..no winch here..

5.5" coils up front with wristed arm. Just found out my spotter is not gonna make it. Not sure if I will be in the crawl, but I will be there with the sploder. I'll be back behind the high lift tent by the bathrooms. Plenty of cold adult beverages on hand!!!

Ah the kind of offroading that doesn't require a D/L ;) Hopefully you've got all that resolved by now. Welcome back!

I didn't vote but i've got it marked to make this trip.

I'll do the 4 trails.

I'm going to go ahead and volunteer to lead at least one group of 1 - 2 level guys.
I have been on every trail there with either my explorer or old B2 so I know my way around pretty good.

Depending on if I get my D35/8.8 swap done, I may lead on a level 3 trail. Not used to talking about trails at Badlands in terms of numbers, how exactly are they being rated?
1 - dunes/quarry
2 - dunes/quarry/green trail
3 - ?
4 - ?

cableguy would probably be able to figure the color to number coordination better.
