BDS Suspension 83-97 Ranger 6" kit on My '91 EX!!!

I recommend Superlifts 6" extended rubber brake lines, $65 or so, work very well.

or re-locate your stock brake lines to save $$.

Also dont forget you will need brake fluid and bleeding if you change out the lines.
you can also add the cost of the alignment, possible alingment shims and I hope your kit came with a 4"-6" drop pitman arm or the bump steer is going to SUCK

:ifting is not cheap, nor does it take 1 day for most :)

Yeah 2.5-3 quarts is what the book says. Some people go as far as putting 6 quarts in the sucker. 3 is all ive ever put in, im guessing excess will likley be spit out the breather hole.

I think I'll just order the braided steel brake lines from four wheel parts warehouse.
I bought a ton of brake fluid.
I planned on the alignment.
It did come with the pitman arm.

I knew it would be expensive, but my wife gets angrier with each new thing I have to buy.

weird, the rangerstation.com says the rear diff takes 5 pints, which is 2.5 quarts, yet my rear 8.8 takes 1.5 gallons to fill which is 12 pints or 6 quarts...haha my 8.8 has the pinion angle adjusted for some lift and is fitted with a ARB locker.......but not enough to make up that much of a difference! Something is wrong here.....

Trust me I have filled up my 8.8 enough times to know I need to buy 2 gallons of 80W-90 to fill it.

Hey, you found the same conversion site that I did.

I heard your not supposed to fill it up past the bottom of the little hole in the front (facing the front of the vehicle)

you cannot fill it up past the fill hole or it will start to leak out silly, this is how you know when its full........once it starts dripping out you put the plug back in.....

check that the vent tube is clear (can blow through it) and you are good to go. If you use silicoln to seal the diff cover make sure you allow time for it to dry, or typically it will leak.
I dont use gaskets on the 8.8...

I just ordered a full set of Explorer ProComp braided lines for my lift from 4WheelParts..about $100. Part # is EXP-7305 which does all four wheels.

Oh ye of little faith :D. I did the Superlift on my X in about 8 hours  (that doesn't include the trip to the emergency room for hand X-Rays to make sure it wasn't broken when the impact wrench slammed it into the cross member  )

yes yes you can install a bracket kit in one day, thats not what I said, just dont plan on it.

the rear axle only has one brake line going to it, and it doesnt need to be extended IMO you can just remove it from the bracket and let it hang in the air, which will allow enough brake line for alot of flex.

Yeah a lot of people get 6 quarts in there, Im sure i could too. I guess after 2.5 it doesnt make much difference. Im thinking the extra oil just displaces down the axle tubes, and probably doesnt raise the level of the oil in the pumpkin very much. Your wheel bearings are getting all the extra oil. Which could be a good thing, but ive never heard of the wheel bearings failing on an 8.8.

I did get a cover gasket. It has been on there and just sitting in the driveway, and already it's starting to leak after only 24 hours!! Before I put the axle back in, I gonna take the gasket out and use rtv instead. That way I can just roll it over and not leak any fluid out.

Which brings up another question. Is it just me or is it truly strange that my differential cover is made from plastic?????

go get a metal one from Ford, any mustang or F-150 8.8 cover will work.....the plastic ones SUCK, but ford used them on some years.....
dealer is like $30

when you under take a project like this, take your estimated cost and double it. Hopefully you will be close when all is said and done.

My first estimated cost was $1200 to $1500. My wife's estimated cost was $200 to $300. I just added up the total cost so far and I'm at $1179. I think I'm doing pretty well. As far as I know I don't have to buy anything else. Except for the new differential cover. So I'm doing alright.

Now it's 2:30 in the morning on the second day. The front is done except for the pitman arm. The rear will be a piece of cake compared to the front. just put the ubolts on the springs and that's it.

Besides bleeding the brakes, alignment, and cleaning up. Man, I hate cleaning up.

I guess totally, subtracting the drive time back and forth to checker, I'm around 12 hours. Not too shabby for my first lift kit and all by myself.

I'm tired now. Goodnight ya'all.

Wait, I can't go to bed yet, I have to make my......................

dont forget your pitman arm puller :)

I got a little pitman arm puller from autozone, it did the bottom side of the pitman arm, but it was too small to get the top side. Maybe checker has a bigger one.

Thanks for reminding me.

Harbor Freight is my new best friend (they opened one up 3.2 miles from my house) before that it was 30 something miles away and across town

Sweet!! There is a checker about 4.3 miles away, and a brand new autozone that just opened up about 4.25 miles away. Not to mention the countless other 4x4 shops within a 1/2 hour drive. And of course Moab is only 4 hours away.
