Story:

I'm on a once in a lifetime boating/shooting/wheeling/blowingshitup trip.

11:30 AM. We decided to baja around on the beach and talk to some of the locals to find the best fishing spots. Well we were in an area that no one was in wheelin around. I got a little brave and tried a mud/sand pit. I almost got through it untill the front of my truck sunk. You can't see it well in the picture but standing next to the front tire water/mud was at my Waist!!!

So I get on the CB and managed to get someone with a 2002 shortbed chevy truck over to try and get me out. Once he hooked up and tried to pull he sunk in the soft sand. We had to dig him out. joy! Next step was my 2 friends jumped in the back of their truck and went over to a tractor that was putting wave runners/boats in the water. He came over free of charge to give me a few good faith tugs. Oh guess what! HE GOT STUCK and sunk to his frame! So we had to dig him out and Full size crewcab chev came over and was finaly able to get him out. So the final try was the full size chev hooked to the tractor hooked to my cross member. I had to take my shirt off and lay in this mud/**** and dig my way to get to the X-member. But They did it and got me out!!!

2nd round of stupidity. :banghead: :banghead: Turning around in almost the same spot I had already driven through with no problem my truck sank instantly to the frame. Turns out there was an underground stream going into the lake so the sand looked packed and hard but underneeth was super slimy suctioncup baby terd mud. The same guy in the tractor came over and tried again and couldn't even move me 1". Someone watching decided to bring his big ass V10 Excursion over and try. He had stock tires and sunk fast when he started spining. We ended up digging him out..Luckly only the front of his truck sank. He got pulled out by the tractor.

Out of options. I call 411 and call a tow company, the guy says he'll come out for free and see what he'll need. He shows up and says it will be at least 200 cause he'll have to find a backhoe and driver to get me out.

5:30PM. Backhoe shows up and starts rollin down the beach. I could give a rats ass how much it costed I just wanted off the damn beach. Well he starts sinking and sunk fast because of how heavy he was. Then amazingly he starts using the side arms, bucket, and arm to crawl his way over to me!!!

5:45PM: After hooking his big arm to my truck frame with chains he was able to get me out!!!

6:00PM and 200$ later I'm back on pavement with my truck so discusting inside and out.

Now for the video's. BTW AWD rocks in the sand. Only thing that stoped me was sitting on my frame.

Ok this was when we first got out there and I decided to do an undercariage wash! :)Video

This was a little farther in and we found some extremely soft/kinda deep sand. I just made sure I didn't stop so I wouldn't get stuck. The AWD through here was great. I had it floored 95% of the time even turning! :burnout: Video

On my way down the beach a bit further I saw these ruts that have been carved by rushing water durring the rain season and decided to climb them. It really dosn't look that hard but it was fun to do. I didn't think the AWD would get me up it. The first try I wanted to go slow and try to crawl up it but that didn't work. Video

Once we got to the beach I was really scared to go near the water but I saw 4-5 people driving cars around but not in the water directly and figured it they could do It I could. Also took this opertunity for another under cariage wash! :) I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Video

Okay here's the WHOOPS video's, This is the first mud/hole I got stuck in. While I was driving into it I felt a sudden thump and we started sinking. I stoped spining so I wouldn't dig in. By the time I finaly got out the runing boards were almost under water/mud. I wasn't to upset in this one cause I knew I'd get stuck at least once. Whoops 1

Here is the tractor/chevy/chris Line of tow straps to get me out. You may need sunglasses because for a brief moment you see my white ass running from the lake to clean off before getting into the truck. Video

I have 2 more to add later that have my truck being towed out by the backhoe and how deep it sunk trying to crawl out to me. Section525 Is converting these files to more dialup friendly size. I also have a few high res pics of all this I will post later.

MAD THANKS TO SECTION525 FOR HOSTING THESE VIDS!

My Response...

WOW...

I've been through tougher stuff in my moms 1999 front wheel drive Ford Taurus.

Nice vids. Where is Bear Lake? and did we really need 3 different threads on the same vids. :banghead:

riiiight thats why just about everything that came over to get me out got stuck. I should of went up to the main street and flagged down a Taurus :smoke:

AspenX: Sorry I just always see posts of people wanting to see vids. Bear lake is up in northern Utah. The Utah/Idaho boarder actually goes through 1/2 the lake.

Nice, where did you find a tractor?

Was it hotter that hell up there or what?

We all had our shirts off cause we were literaly swiming in all that sand/mud crap to get the towstraps on. The shore line has a very very shallow incline so most trucks can't get waverunners/boats out without swiming them on that side of the lake. So the tractors can go really deep because they sit so high. I actually drove into it up to my boards and I was a good 25ft from the shoreline. To get the boat in the water we had to go to the other side.

Nothing personal man but that wasnt nearly as stuck as I expected from the post about stuck to the 10th degree or whatever. One locked X on some decent rubber coulda pulled that out

When I'd put it in Drive and let off the brake all 4 tires would slowly spin Idleing. I don't think lockers would of helped I was on my frame/body both times! But I think your right. I need to get new tires these things are slicks and should just be used as drag radials.

Always fun to see videos of off-roading, especially the ever rare AWD V8s!! Glad to hear that the truck did well over most stuff, but I've learned that the gas pedal is your best friend with the awd, since the front axle doesn't kick in untill about 1500 rpm.

The tug chain was rather amuzing - when being pulled out, did you have the truck in drive and were pressing the gas? The reason I ask is again, another quirk with our BW4404 t-case. Have you ever tried to push your truck with the trans in neutral? If you have, you'll know that its really hard if not impossible to. The reason? The t-case uses the front shaft and the rear shaft in the parking brake system, which is why you don't get any braking from the park pawl in the transmission with the front shaft out. I'm still unclear of how this works - only that's the case.

Time for some tow hooks, man!!!

I have the hooks sitting in my garage. I've been to busy to put them in.

Whenever I'm getting pulled out I always just put the X in either D or R and very lightly if at all touch the gas. The worst thing is digging down more and getting stuck more. Thats why in the one video I went to wash myself off. My friend Greg has 2 theorys wheeling. #1. Floor it untill it blows up. #2. Hit every obsticle at 90mph (why he yelled at me for not going fast into the first bog) And I didn't want him behind the wheel.

Also when I've been in extremely deep snow or stuck in snow the only way to get out is to floor it for about 10 seconds and then I can actualy feel the front starting to work harder. Its weird, with AWD's most of the time its better to floor it...Its just a tricky thing to wheel with these damn things.

Just out of curiousity, did you air down your tires before hitting the sand? Hopefully you did, I'm not sure how the sand is like near you but on the Delaware beaches that are 2 hours from me, I have to air down to atleast 15 PSI.

One word man. "Rocking" Thats all you got to do.

I barried a 2wd ranger up to the bottom of the tailgate once in deep mud. Got it out by rocking her. Of corse the BFG M/T really helped

Amen. I'm a big fan of challenge, but a bigger fan of a new t-case :smoke:

I couldn't rock. I couldn't even get the truck to rock sideways. It was basicly on a natures jackstands. As I mentioned before I was sitting on my frame/body. All 4 wheels would just spin at idle. In order to get the towstrap wrapped around the cross member it took me about 30 minutes with a gardening shovel clearing stuff away.

EOD.. do you have pics of your x? Oh, thats right its dead! If you think something is stupid, then maybe you shouldnt comment ;)

BTW, that link just takes me to some random 4x4 site, no movie.

Touchy... Touchy...

Hey Premier Bulking,

Yeah my rig is dead!

But it's about to be reincarnated with 400+ horsepower and 1 ton axles! Nuff said... :fire:

Just having fun Nitrous SSC...

Jake, my comments are all in good fun, by the way, so chill out and stop whining.

Since when did Serious Explorations get so serious...

Why do you keep calling me that.. Should I call you Explorerofdeath wannabe?

All in good fun at the expense at someones feelings. Trust me, I have been in more crap from mods here than most, and one thing they require is that you respect other members. Sure it makes the site a bit less fun, but there are plenty of boards out there that will let you flame the **** outa people. If you want to have some "fun" I suggest you read up on politics, and post in the political forum.

I'm a wannabe...boo hoo

-Jake,

I guess I am the "Explorerofdeath wannabe"... I admit it... I've got no problem with that because what i've seen from the "Elite Members" with the exception of one or two of you, so far, isn't really that impressive and you guys are way too uptight... And, most of you have no sense of humor, are real serious, and are whiny.

And, again, yes my rig is broke (who cares) but I still have a sense of humor

I don't know a whole lot about politics, either, so why bring that up...

I'ts a message board for 4x4's, Explorers, whatever... It's supposed to be fun... Members and Wannabes, like me, are allowed to hack on each other.

Feelings... who cares... I'm a guy not a counselor for serious people with whiny feelings...

This should be my last comment about anything that hurts anyones feelings... So, enjoy the rest of your summer, have fun on the trails, and Maximize your whatever...

And, I'll keep working on my broke down piece of Explorer... Hanging out with humorous people who can take my jokes... Offroad like a madman in my 1997 4x4 TJ Wrangler Sport, with non-whiny people... Not care about the feelings of whiners... And, maybe, get into politics you never now... Oh yeah and be a man, not a whiny so and so...

-Regards...
Explorerofdeath... sniff... sniff ...tear... oh god... I'm a...... Wannabe!!!!!! :(
