Before & After Tint Job

the last time this topic came up, i think the general consensus was that even if a place puts some kind of mirror tint on your truck, it still wont match it perfectly, might be kinda close, but youll still see the difference. the problem is that the privacy glass isnt tinted at all, its got the stuff actually in the glass.

my opinion, if you tint all your windows with mirror stuff, the cops are gonna give you an even harder time than if it was just regular tint.

I haven't actually seen up close what this "privacy glass" looks like but I'm sure if it's factory you can get something decent and legal to match better then regualr tint. I'd go to a few places and see what they can offer before saying all hope is lost.

Probably, I've spoken with several tinting shops that say they can match it pretty good, which is good news for me :bounce:

Yeah, they can match it...but on my truck the privacy glass is that bronze-y looking stuff. I don't want the BRONZE look, I want the BLACK look!

I'm tempted to say "screw it" and just get the fronts black tinted 35%, which is the darkest legal tint for my state. I don't know. It is a bad dilemma.

The guy at a tint shop said he could do 50% bronze to match, but that's not very dark for me, and it would add to the bronze look which i don't want. The motif for my truck is green and black, not green and bronze.

hey alpha, where'd you go for the tint? The place on tuetonia?

The bronzing stuff is more expensive as well, I think. :(

im getting my tints tom. although i have the privacy glass, im just gonna go 20% all around. I just saw a guy in a suburban with limo tints over his factory ones. Although his didnt have the mirror look, i still think my car will look better with tints. itz not gonna "match" but who cares.

jssong, post up some pics after you get it done. i too was thinking about just tinting over the privacy glass, even if it wouldnt match. i hope it turns out good! :bounce:

My 92 has the privacy glass, and this is what I did: 35% "neutral smoke" tint all the way around. The privacy glass still has the mirror look, but it's now a black mirror instead of a bronze mirror, and it looks darker. The fronts, at most angles and under most lighting, match the rears almost perfectly. Oh, and don't go more than 35% over the privacy glass. I initially had 5% limo tint, and not only did it turn the windows into a total mirror, you couldn't see anything out of it at night.

peace

oohhh you were talking about the tint shop! im sorry i just didnt get it at first.

(i reused my 100th post elsewhere) :D

OMG... cant see anything.. haha..
i got 20 all around. the back is so dark, that even when you put your face against the window, you cant see inside. the front is so dark that while im driving, letz just say dont jump out from my sides, or i wont see you and run you over. if i can borrow my friends digital camera, ill post pics.
i also put in indiglo gauges. bought them from procarparts on ebay.. they didnt fit very well, so i had to cute the circumference of the holes where the needles fit through, but the left and right sides didnt work. so i just have the middle one in.. the only problem is my speedometer doesnt move.. lol.. i was driving home on the highway not knowing how was i was going.. haha. oh well.. gotta strip the dash tom and try it again. anyone know how much a new instrument cluster costs??

dont know, but i would imagine a lot. it probably wont warrant a new cluster though, prolly just something you forgot to hook up.

Mike that sounds like the way to go.

Since u have a 92 and I have a 94, they have the same privacy glass setup, so 35% neutral smoke should do it. After all, stock, the windows don't match (the backs are that bronze privacy glass and the fronts are no tint)...so after tinting 35% smoke all around, maybe it still won't match, but at least it will be blacked out. I don't need people to see my Alpine and other goodies in there.

how much does it cost to get 35% smoke done on a four door? is there a difference between "smoke" and normal tint, or is smoke normal tint?

thanks, -chris

I think mine was $160 for all the windows (except for the windshield, of course). This was about 3 years ago though. There are a couple of different types of tint, two of them being "desert smoke" and "neutral smoke." Desert smoke is really black. Neutral smoke is black, but more metallic looking. That's why it matches the factory privacy glass better.

i took my dash apart today.. and now my speedometer works. it didnt work yest because the indiglo gauge was too thick, and didnt allow the needle to move. i had to cut the holes for the needles bigger. all good.

Edited because I found it on an earlier post. KARTUNES

Where did you get the tinting done? $100 for 4 windows is great, and it looks much better than stock. When I lived outside of Milwaukee, there was a place that quoted me $50 for the two fronts, but I lost their contact info.

Thanks.
