I recently blew the motor in my stock '99 explorer xlt 4.0 sohc (damn timing chain tensioner) and now that it's just sitting in my drive way wasting space i plan on turning it into my new off road project and obviously i need to start with the engine, I was thinking of going V8 since from what i've found they seem to be the least problematic for this gen. Would the v8 swap require alot of fabricating and rewiring or would it be a relatively simple swap? keep in mind i do realize i will have to re do some things i just would like a better understanding of how much re working would need to be done, thanks for the help!

Everything under the hood must be redone; ECU, Wiring harness, motor, all of its accessories (A/C compressor, PS pump, alternator etc etc), radiator, fluid tanks (I think).., transmission, assuming that you're 4x4; transfer case, front and rear driveshafts, GEM module, exhaust atleast to the cats.. probably a couple more things I'm forgetting.

Since you DID blow yours up, if it's still stock.. may I suggest finding a wrecked, cosmetically atleast, 5.0 for cheap and swapping all of your body parts to it and then continue modding it to the offroader you want. Definitely will be easier and probably cheaper in the long run.. :dunno:

well thats a dream killer, i guess i'll stick with the 4.0 sohc, if i can find an 03 and up motor
