How easy would it be with someone with very little auto-related knowledge to add a body lift to their vehical following the directions that come with the kit? In my case it'll be 3" or 4" on a 1996 Explorer AWD.

You can do a 3" but not a 4"...they are not made, and should never be made..it's unsafe. Anyway you need to start searching our threads and learn as much as you can before starting...i'll get you started. Unfortunalty no one makes a body lift for the 2nd gen..but all is not lost...a body lift for a ranger will work, but you will have to build your own bumper lift bracket..or ask around here to see if anyone will help you out. It's not for a 96, but the procedure will be somewhat similar...look in the usefull threads forum, 3rd page there's a post with at least part numbers, called how to put a body lift on a 97....anyway here's the link for the first gen:http://www.explorer4x4.com/bodylift.html
Just read alot, i wish I could be more helpful but I've never done a body lift.

Good Luck!!

p.s. and yes, if you study up on it and have the correct tools it's not somehting that's out of your mechanical reach!! :)

edit- question answered above, thank you both of you :)

Didn't your Dad do it for you and you just took pictures and handed him tools? :p :D

Hell, Dad wouldn't get anywhere near it, only thing he helped me do was get the front most body mounts broken loose. "Its your truck, you mess it up yourself"
