I have a 92 explorer with some rust under the back doors and am wondering what I will have to do to fix it. There is also some rust on the tailgate when you open it. If anyone knows anything on how to do this please reply. :banghead:

use naval jelly to get the rust off, then put a belt sander o nit to smooth the potted areas, prime inside and out, no exposed metal! then go the auto parts store and get some fiberglass screen and some bondo. follow the directions sand it down and get some primer and match your color. its as easy as that.

good luck!

 That sounds better than what i have been told since my last post my father in law told me to get the grinder and to just start girnding away . thanks i think i will try that.

instead of bondo i would recommend plain fiberglass patching. Bondo can bulge over time and the color painted over the bondo will fade with the sunlight.

i agree with michigander,
your autopart store should have the fiberglass stuff available.

:bounce: You were right the navel jelly took the rust right off no grinding needed I think you saved my truck from my father in law. Thanks I thought about using bondo but am glad I waited thanks.

naval Jelly works great on your belly button as well.

its one of those miracles of nature. the one thing that you need to be sure to do is prime the backsode so that rust wont eat from the inside out. prime the hell out of it. no exposed rust or metal.

im glad its working out. who knows how much a body would charge. they think allot of their services. my ex is being worked on now since i hit a deer. the bill fo rbody work was amazing.
