Thats right guys my 00' mountaineer no longer has any type of egr emissions on it! I put a cap on where the threads were in the header and used a gasket, metal and the 2 origional bolts to block off the 90 degree . Runs with no problems and havent gotten a check engine light yet, though i expect that to be coming. All of the sensors are unplugged and removed which im confused why I didn't receive a CEL upon startup.

The main reason for me to do this is because with a 1'' spacer between the upper and lower the EGR tue just isn't long enough. I thought it was and torqued the bolts down and cracked the upper :banghead: . So I bought one off of Ebay that was from a mustang guy that had already ported it (not that is needs porting to begin with). I ended up getting it for 197$ including 2 day shipping and the intake plauqe on the top.

Pics of the swap and disposal will be coming ....

PS: Please dont rant about all the harmfull pollutants that i am going to be addign to the air. I still have all 4 cat's.

ok CEL is now on and its EGR codes.. Doh well at least it runs perfect and ther eis no other problems

Did you ever get those pics together? Had thought about doing the same to mine. Did it on my 91 Probe and had increase in performance. Whenever I was coasting, like coming up on a stop sign/light the CEL would come on, so I just goosed the throttle and the Cel would go out.

Will you still pass emissions without the EGR stuff? You should get an Apten to get rid of the CEL.

yeah It wont pass emissions with a modified EGR system but not many shops will look for it all the way in the back of the engine bay. Im going to try that new apten programmer out by the end of summer after I get my cam and stuff in. There is no reason why my truck would not pass a sniffer test due to other people having true duals and EGR is only on 1 side. I'll get pics up sometime this week but Its not much to look at.

I don't think there is any way you'll pass emissions.

It's very unlikely you will pass emissions.
Swapping to true duals has no affect on the EGR system.

It works by adding an inert gas (exhaust just happens to be a handy source) to control combustion temperatures.
You no longer have that control.

Suprisingly, it could go either way. Ive heard of stangs/camaros passing the sniffer with no EGR and had a friend that could pass with no EGR and a little bit of cam in his stang. Overall, EGR doesnt do much at all at reducing pollutants.

How do you go about getting rid of it anyway? What do you do with the vac lines and the EGR tube, plug them?

I swaped to a 97 and before upper intake manifold. It has a smaller vaccum line in the back (to the fpr) which on my 00'' is large where it goes to the EGR canister and the fuel pressure reg. When I used the manifold i just ran a vaccum line from the intake manifold bypassing the EGR. The header tube I just blocked at the bung with a penny. All I did there was I cut the tube out and tightened down on the penny where the tube should be. Then I sealed It up with muffler mender crap. Then in the back of the 90 elbow i made a peice of metal the size of the flange and cut a gasket and screwed it on. Tight fit with no leaks and you can't see it.

Unless you were looking for EGR you would never notice its gone.

Hi boominXplorer:

Did you notice any difference in drivability? I ask because reducing the EGR flow is a common mod with V6 S-10 pickups. I did it on mine, and it made a huge difference in the throttle response in city driving. It didn't do anything for all-out performance, because the EGR valve is closed at wide-open throttle, but the difference in part-throttle response was very noticable.

I don't plan to eliminate my EGR completely, but I might try reducing the flow if it makes a difference. What was your experience?

Regards,
John.

well to tell you the truth I have no idea on the difference it makes because I put on a ported upper intale manifold and a 1'' GT 40 spacer at the same time. With all of that I can run a constant 19mpg even around town
