This is kind of wierd. Few weeks back the cam sensor on my 97 5.0 somehow broke apart inside the cam sensor housing (bottom part of a distributor). It was running rough at idle periodically, no codes. Thought maybe I should change the wires and plugs, so I did. Also decarb'd the engine also. Still the same. Then a code popped up MAF circuit malfunction. Great, so I changed it out and cleared it. Came back again. Then one day all hell broke loose with a worse misfire. Barely running, limping down the road untill I could pull off. Find out its the cam sensor using a scanner. Take it off and in about 5 pieces sits the sensor with the magnetic part of the sensor stuck spinning around. Thought maybe this really was my problem all along!

How did this break apart? I checked the drive part of the cam housing for play or wobbling, nothing. Well its back. Mainly when you have driven for a while without shutting it off, idling is crap. 600rpms and missing. Or at a redlight with it not missing, go to take off and it has no power and misses for about 4 seconds then slams you into the seat with its power. Reminds me of my car, having turbo lag then 25 psi kicks in. Doesnt do the two of them together. Checked the cam sensor again and its not broken or cracked. No codes either, nothing pending or in memory. No arcing of wires or coil pack. Cleaned the IAC Valve too. I do that religously along with sea foam in the tank every oil change.

Ideas? Thoughts? WTF's ?

Thanks alot, maybe that is going to be my idling problem. Funny that I dont have a chirping noise though.
Maybe mine is special! :wavey:

I will get one and find out though.

Spend the $200 bucks and get the ford one! Trust me, the Napa one I put in the first time broke after only a few hundred miles. let me know if you need the part number;)
