Alright guys i know i post way to many questions but this one has me somewhat puzzled.

When i did my body lift last year (around the same time i had a misfire in cyl 3) I had noticed a strong gas smell. It wasent a concern to me because i figured it was the one cylinder that wasent firing. I did plugs and wires on it and it seemed fine but that was in summer and when i noticed the gas smell was when it was fairly cold out still.
Fast forward to this winter and it really smells like gas , it actully kind of scares me to light a cigarette.
Its really wet under the hood on the drivers side but its hard to pinpoint because there 3 fluids in that area brake fluid, power steering and the fuel line that come up from the filter on the frame.

Is it possible that from the body lift it has bent a fuel line and it is now leaking?

Any special tools required for the fuel line other then the filter tool?

am i completly crazy for thinking my fuel lines are leaking or is this somewhat common?

on 3/4 of a tank i got 150 KM's so its definantly loosing fuel somewhere or something else is wrong.

Help? Opinions? thanks guys

Being that I have had 4 fuel pumps in a year the mechanic that did the job didnt seem to use any special tools that i am aware of other than the one for the filter I don't know how much that helps but hey it's something...

Also I feel you on the whole lighting a cigg...My car wreaks of gas atm (due to assembly and pump being in an open box and i just tossed out the assembly today)...I let my car air out before i light lol.

Thanks for the tips man^^

Anyways closer inspection today reveals no leaks from the braided fuel line that runs up and over the engine, i also inspected the fuelline right from the tank. No leaks!

So could one of the injectors be leaking?
is changing the injectors a big job on the ohv?

It should not be "wet" under the hood for any reason. Whatever you are leaking needs to be fixed. Because all the fuel lines run up that side and since you smell gas strongly I would guess one of the lines is leaking there.

There is also some sort of evaporation control box that sits near the front left side behind the bumper. It is possible the connection between one of the lines and that box is leaking. Or that the box itself is faulty. Have you had any DTCs thrown?

Take off the plastic wheel well lining which is held in by about six bolts. This will allow you to see everything in that area. And give us better information.

Well i had a good look at it today and my main seal is leaking oil, not a whole lot just some spray around there. and my brake fluid is over the full line so it may be pushing some out over the top.
if it is leaking, its the braided part of the fuel line but i have my doubts now.
would gettin a fuel pressure test solve where it is leaking from?

I still recommend doing this and looking at everything in that area with a flashlight.

alright i will do, i can see in there pretty good with the body lift and the one peice pulled out already, i see vacum hoses that go to some connector type deal behind the front bumper but other then that the fuel line comes from the frame and switches to a braided fuel line that runs to the fuel rails. my guess would be its leaking right where the fuel lines changes into a braided line or at the injectors.
Is ther a diy fuel pressure test i could do with a compression tester lol?

UPDATE, 2 injectors on the passenger side are leaking.I let it warm up and theres puddles around where the injectors sit. im going to do o rings on the injectors in the next day or so, anything i need to know?

i picked up the complete kit which includes both o rings, a plastic cap, and a plastic spacer thing? im not 100% sure where evrything goes but once i get them out ill figure it out.
I rented the heated garage next door to me so im actully kind of excited to take on the project haha wish me luck guys

What engine do you have? Ripping the fuel injectors out involves taking off the upper intake manifold and replacing it's gasket when you put it back on. You need at least a Haynes or Chilton manual to guide you and give you bolt torque specs. Or buy an Alldata subscription for shop manual quality info (not the full shop manual but still good).

Don't go tearing into it if you don't know what you're getting into. I'd hate for your next post to be, "Oh no! I just stripped one of the intake manifold bolts!"

Its the 4.0 OHV.
The upper and lower intake gaskets were done last year.
got a haynes manual.
basically i remove a few vacum lines unclip a few electrical connections, undo the gas pedal cable, pull off the upper intake.
haynes says to move the fuel rails back and forth until the injectors pop out.
at this point i will give then a severe cleaning like the link above.
pop it all back together torque to factory specs.
sounds like a good days work.
should i make a write up?

I'm not familiar with that engine so I can't help you much. But I would think you're supposed to relieve the fuel pressure before opening it up too. If you wait a little bit some people will chime in on replacing the fuel injectors.

In the meantime here are some threads that might help you out:

Thanks man i read the first one already. I'll wait for some more info from other members to

Well guys i did it, rebuilt all the injectors and pulsed carb cleaner threw them all.
i pulled the fuel pump relay and it just wouldnt quit running so i said to hell with it and ripped into her.
Was not that big of a job but i could clearly see 3 injectors that were leaking a substantial amount. The truck seems like it runs much smoother, the rough idle is pretty much cured. i can already tell gas mileage is back and NO GAS SMELL!

When i was cleaning the injectors i used a peice of clear tubing that fit perfectly on the one end of the injector, the bottle of carb cleaner i bought fit perfectly in the tubing as well, so i used the bottle of carb cleaner kind of as a fuel pump(but with cleaner instead of gas)
i then used a 9v battery to pulse the injectors. At first the spray pattern wasent all that great and it clearly got better as i ran the cleaner threw.

Thanks guys!

Great work! I'm glad you got it fixed so fast.

Thanks man, quick question, what can i use to clean ther maf and the iac does it have to be an electrical parts cleaner

I would only use electrical parts cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner. Be very gentle when cleaning the MAF because the wires which make up the sensor element are fragile. Here are two links. The entire first thread, and the link at the end of the second thread are both excellent info sources.

thanks man, Im gonna go over all the little things on her now that i have a heated garage.

well i knew it was to good to be true, one problem thus far.
when in park after the truck is all warmed up it seems to go from 1200 to 500 rpm and keep doing that, it hasent stalled and when its cold it doesnt do this.
when in any other gear it does not do this just when i put it in park it starts revving up and down any ideas guys does this sound like a vacum leak or what
