91 xl 2 door
I bought my first truck a while ago, a 1991 explorer 2 door. I have slowly started to check most of the basic maintenance off and even did a pcv delete and a cat delete and have really started to look into some of my bigger plans. I just had some questions about somethings

One of my main questions is regarding the front suspension. As my ttb has a 3.73 ratio I was thinking about running the axle as is, but through some short trips on back roads I started realizing that some better shocks and coil springs may help. I have some knowledge about older ford trucks and I was wondering if it was possible too swap my old coil buckets out to a f-150 twin shock coil bucket?

I believe it’s a different diameter coil. Are you looking to get a little lift, or a smoother ride?

I was kinda looking for a little bit of both, I believe my coils are original

Old coils can sag, but it’s the shocks that smooth things out. How old do the shocks look?

The shocks are pretty rough however they work so I’m going to wait until they give out and then do shocks

For a little lift, cheapest is usually coil spacers. And some shackles or add a leaf in the rear.

Not sure whats all available for the 1st gens coil wise but I think James Duff makes some. Last I heard it was good stuff, not too budget friendly afaik but good stuff

James duff only
Makes 3” or taller springs for ttb

You want the Skyjacker 1.5” lift coil and shock package for your truck
It is the perfect setup, it will give you exactly 1.75” of lift and they ride like a dream… on a budget or daily driven build this is what I do!

Consider adding camber adjusters in your upper ball joint when you install these coils
So alignment is easily brought back into spec

Another budget friendly mod:
95-97 ranger knuckles and calipers…
You get dual piston brakes with real slide bolts, huge upgrade for those old 93 brakes

Interesting, does swapping to the ranger calipers allow me to keep the locking hubs? Would I have to swap out anything else?

You have to swap the knuckle because it has the caliper Mount built into it

You need knuckles and calipers to make the change, new brake pads for 95-97 ranger (95-01 explorer same caliper and pad)

All other parts are the same as what you have, even the same rotors

Huge upgrade to the brakes to go to a dual piston caliper and real slide pins
