has any one swaped in the c4/c5 in place of your a4ld. im realy tired of this tranny and with the urge to go bigger starting to get to me i realy need a better tranny. im only running 31s now and it dont shift right. i thought about adding a shift kit but dont know if it will help. if i swap will my d shafts bolt back in or will the need to be modified, some one please help. i just had this tranny rebuilt and its starting to poop out again i think.btw im running 31s on 3.27 gears. should i just try and find a 4.10 pig for the front and swap in my 4.10 geard 2002 explorer rear and see if that helps first or what????????????

Slow down

Okay so you rebuilt your A4Ld and its having issues already?
Running 31" tires with htose gears is another battle for another day.

If you plan to lift the truck and keep it for wheeling then the C5 conversion may be PERFECT for you.
You have other options as well.

Have you searched for the C4/C5 conversion? Can you get the parts needed and perform the swap?

Is your current trans under warranty?
What is it doing?

Throwing more $$$ at your A4ld is likely not a good idea right now.

i just payed 2 grand to have it rebuilt. it was ok for a few day then it just started to go down hill from there.i can do all my own work but am kinda new the the explorer. its mainly in the shifts. there very poor. they can never decide were to go.im thinking a **** kit mite help it stay in gears better and shift better.

You might have a sticking governor, bad valve body, or other semi minor adjustment issue.
Who did the rebuild?
Have they looked at the truck since the new problems arose?

Sorry to say but typically with this trans the rebuild is when the trouble starts.

A c5 conversion is straight forward and do-able for less then the $2k you just spent.
You might see if this trans builder could even put a package together for you to swap out for thier junky a4ld build..

Getting the parts together is the hard part, the bellhousing you need is becoming more rare.
You have other choices, including 5 speed, 700R4 and other Ford auto's, which the adapters for are just now being made.
