Hi everyone. I replaced my instrument cluster today since it was giving me problems on the speedometer. I had already replace the speedo sensor and that didn't worked. I transferred my odometer to my new cluster using "1998Exploder" tread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203189&highlight=cluster+2001 well my problem was getting the needles to mark the correct speed since instead of marking zero it was staying on 30 miles wen stooped.

The solution. I place the cluster on the car without the cover and the needle, hoked everything on the back then turned on the car. I removed the needle keeper placed the needle ten miles below the needle keeper hole (eye ball it) went to the radar near my home when I got the right speed. I put the needle up and the needle keeper back in its place. Of course you can repeat this steps to get a more accurate MPH.

those radar signs are always off by 2-3 mph anyway.

if you want accuracy you can either have a friend clock you with a hotwheels radar gun (they actually work), or use a gps

I've done this a few times. I used a salad fork (to remove the needles) and a Scangauge (to take speed and tach readings in real time). My speed is always bang on to those radar signs, my GPS and the PCM. Posted about it in the archives a few times.

Thanks for the tips on another method. Mine involved trial and error until bang on. Used the same method for the tach. Other gauges were done by taking a photo before and matching the needles as closely as possible to the photo.

I live dangerously- I put the needle on loosely and drive the truck, set the cruise, and match speeds with my GPS then push the needle on. :D

I did this at 2:00am. Great fun...

Sounds Fun! Ill try that wen I get a gps Ill try 3am
