98 merc mountaineer syncro problems

I been calling around,one local junk yard said they sold out.They have had a number of people trying to find harmonic balancers for 98 mercury 5.0.I'll find one -thanks-

Cam sync problems

You have had this problem more than once?I've called around and the best i can find is napa can order it for 73$.The problem is i need to verify it has moved.(harmonic balancer)I removed it from the truck and the rubber has melted and started comming out of places.What i need to know is if the keyway is up and the #1 piston is at tdc then the notch in the harmonic balancer should be at 9-10 o-clock.Right?

The keyway is the absolute TDC, possibly for all Fords ever made. The TDC mark of the balancer should be around 10 O'clock as you asked, matching the pointer on the timing cover.

I've bought two normal balancers to have them converted into what I needed for a 347 stroker. I used two trigger wheels from old Explorer balancers. The stock units are all reasonably priced from Ford. If you have any worry about the balancer and it's off, replace it. They have been known to slip or twist on themselves. It's rare of course and usually high mileage.

I'm sorry, I just checked for a price on Tasca Ford, it's $198. I call that too much, I'd get the one from NAPA for $73 you mentioned.
