Camshaft Position Sensor Issue

Hi I am glad I found this site. This is my problem. I have a 2000 explorer. I cant get 1.5 volts to the cam shaft sensor. Everything else seems to be fine. Compression, spark, fuel are good. I have 1.5 volts to the crank sensor but not the cam Thanks for any info you can provide.

Is the 5v supply voltage there?



If not remove the connector and re measure for 5v supply voltage on the connector itself.

I believe you will have to turn the engine over 2 complete revolutions to see one 1.5v signal pulse.

Did you find any correct answer for it? On mine, fuel , injectors , compression are all ok. It cranks with no start.

Thank you for replying.
I already followed those steps and still in vain. no start at all. What I am facing as a question: why there's no 1.5 volts DC on the camshaft connector once it's not connected to the cam sensor? I already have 1.5 volts DC on the crankshaft connector. Is my PCM not delivering that 1.5volts on that cam connector or if I disconnect that cam connector , the engine will start even? Thank you for your help.

Your going to have to follow the wire back toward the PCM. Start by doing a continuity test on the PCM plug and the wire at the CPS. If there's no continuity there's a break in the wire somewhere. Using a pin you can poke it thru the wire in various places an test to see where the break is. If you have an old spring-style clothes pin you can drill a hole in it to make it easier to poke the in in the wire.

If you don't want to unwrap and repair the existing wire, as long as it's good on both ends for at least a few inches, just solder in a piece of new wire and heatshring the connections.

I did check the continuity from the cam connector to the PCM connector, it looks perfect!!! maybe my PCM is showing issue on that 1.5 volts. If there's no power on the camshaft, will the engine start or never?

I believe it will start, but run like crap and use a lot of gas. The CPS tells the PCM when/how to pulse the fuel injectors.

Can you back-probe the PCM plug to see if it's sending the 1.5 volts on the CPS wire? It might be just a bad connection at the PCM.

Perfect, Iwill double check it at the end of the day, may it's a bad connection only or I can trouble shoot the main board of the PCM.

Is there any one who can help on this please: its an Explorer 4SOHC 2001 .It cranks but no start. I can see 1.5v on one of the pins of the crankshaft connector when the key is ON position and the Crankshaft is disconnected ,but there NO voltage on one of the pins of the CAMSHAFT connector? is this normal? fuel,compression, injectors,exhaust , all ok ! no vaccum or exhaust leak detected, but still no start! please help? Thx.

On my ford explorer 4 sohc, the vacuum gauge is rapidly vibrating around 5 inHg, is it a bad camshaft timing or any thing related to timing chain ,ex: guides...
